Avengers HQ, Upstate New York
The iconic 'A' symbol hung proudly upon grey surfaces, surrounded by vast green fields and quinjet pads. Inside were extensive gyms, labs for every branch of science crucial for their work and rooms of different purposes. Personnels of different clearance levels roamed around the places, for training and research mostly. The team was beyond excited when they were granted a new compound as the old compound back in the academy could not be upgraded to a point where it would 'make us look cool' they said.
Fury would sometimes be there and control things, more like control the Avengers. They can be a handful sometimes (most of the time). When Fury wasn't there, Steve would take the initiative to set things right in the compound.
But when neither of them are present....
"Are you sure about this, Clint?" Sam asked the archer.
"Trust me, this is where all of our targets will be. Right, J?" Clint asked the AI.
"The targets? At Central Park?" Bucky chimed in. He was getting better at being a 'good guy' now, Wanda helped him get some of his memories back.
"Sometimes the best place to hide is in plain sight," Thor backed Clint up.
"That's not what I'm saying. It's very crowded right now, Barton. We're not the only ones who want to catch them," Bucky said and Stark smirked at him.
"We'll catch 'em first," Clint said optimistically.
"You guys know Steve won't approve of this right?" Wanda said.
"That's why we do it when he's not here," Clint said.
Somehow the team, minus Steve, Bruce and Stark, who needed to attend a Stark Industries event, came to an agreement that they'll do this even if Steve or Fury disapproves. Clint prepped the van, they chose to use a low key vehicle instead when it's a public place they're going to.
- Meanwhile with Steve -
He brought her flowers, red ones with thorns. He did not and will not know whether she liked flowers. But they were a classic gift nonetheless, and it reminded him of her. Beautiful, but dangerous in a way.
Occasionally they'd ask ,"are you okay?"
and he'll reply,"partially."
"What do you mean?" they'll always ask.
"A part of me died," he'd say each time.
He convinced himself that he can and he will move on eventually, he even got himself a date for tonight. But here he is, bringing flowers and standing by her grave. Telling his stories and feelings out loud as though she could still hear him. He knew for a fact she could not and she would not. But he just had to let his feelings and thoughts out once in a while.
"Hey," he spoke to the breeze of the wind.
"Thor burnt the toaster yesterday," he chuckled, "thought you might've want to know."
"I spent most of my free time alone, it's just nobody keeps me company as well as you always do. Everything feels different without you, Nat. I hope you know. And...Sharon's spending a lot of time with me, I hope you're fine with that, I'm just trying to move on but it's so hard, so hard," he smiled bitterly.
