"Make sure to submit your homework next week. Deadlines are deadlines, okay?" Mrs. Sandoval reminded her class about their homework for math class. She's their last subject and handles the class with an iron first.
"Yes ma'am" the class responded lazily in unison.
As the school bell rang, the students rushed out of the classroom as if there was a fire next building. Everyone was restless and eager to go home, it was Friday after all.
"Zae? Make sure you go straight to your apartment. I've been hearing stories from the faculty that you've been spotted late at night near the border."
"Wasn't the wall built to keep us safe from the infected? How about older brother? Mom told me he'll come back soon." Zae replied.
"Well, yes the wall was built to keep the infected ones from section c and d from reaching us. Your brother is probably fine, isn't he with the military?"
"Yes ma'am."
"Okay then, tell your mom I said hi and that she should visit soon. I have some things to discus with her."
"Alright...see you Mrs. Sandoval." He lazily said, excusing himself.
It has been a long time since the infection started. Multiple types of infected persons have surface, there no longer classified as E or D, but are now based on the severity of the case. Catching off from the last time you've heard the story, Sector C has been closed and that A and B are the only known safe zones. Currently the government is run by a iron hand, the newly elected president shows strong determination to end the vile corruption that reeks within the government and fight the evil that lurks within the borders. Nobody still knows who or what caused the mass infection years ago which took many lives.
"Hey?" Kier called out, trying to catch Viktor's attention who seemed to have zoned out.
"Oh? Kier I'm sorry I was thinking about something. I think my memories are getting better." Victor replied.
"Julia is in a happy place now. We all did the right thing."
"J-Julia?" He muttered, acting as if he doesn't remember who she is.
"You still can't remember huh? Well that's alright. Eventually you'll remember her. All the things we've done together with Ace and Spade."
"Ace? Spade?"
Viktor lost everything, during that rescue operation at Sector C. He lost the memories he regained and lost track of who he is. He remembers no one, nothing aside from his name.
"Berserks." Kier mentioned, flipping on a book he's been reading.
"Infected ones who look like normal humans but act differently when they go hungry for days. They have high blood lust when hungry or missed a feeding." Viktor responded, fixing his glasses.
"Lone Wolf."
"The Hero of Sector C, he was responsible for freeing the trapped civilians at an abandoned building. His teammates perished when an unknown entity attacked his team."
"You're so attentive on your history class Viktor." Kier chuckled.
"I read when I'm bored. There's nothing to do in my room anyway. Oh, before I forgot, Schultz mentioned that we're moving to a different base of operation within this week. I hope you've packed up your things."
"I have."
"Okay then. If you please excuse me, I have something to fix." Viktor added, leaving the veranda.
"Carnival of Corpses. This sounds interesting? I haven't read this on any other manual, let me see..."
"Oh this was one of those hidden chapter books, they don't publish garbage like these anymore. The Lone Wolf and the Fallen Cards - a bad way to romanticize a tragic incident. Poor Viktor, if he'll remember I don't know what will become of him then."
"Worried about him..." a female voice called out.
"He's vulnerable, fragile and definitely unstable. Of course I am worried."
"The Feast of Sabbath will commence soon. Surely the "aswangs" will gather. They've waited years for this to happen. I don't know how or who is controlling them. Aswangs will gather at the old Luneta Park - a significant location in old Philippine history, lost in books."
"You think she'll be there? What if Viktor sees her? You think his memories will come back?"
"Only time will tell what will happen Kier. 5 years was after all a long time ago. He was just 18 when he was sent to that operation. He was skipping his medication as well, his sanity probably contributed to his downfall. What happened to his team - no one knows."
"Ace and Spade were good friends. They were brothers to me, I still can't believe they're gone."
"And the girl? I believe you hold her dear as well."
"Julia, poor girl."
"Well, we can't change the past, however we can do something to save the future. As long as Sector B stands, we will keep the remaining of our citizens safe."
"You've gone soft hearted, Freya."
"I guess, the weather did its magic. Kier, The Beast of Sector B. The Hero of '30, youngest general in Sector B."
"A general is useless without its tactician. Freya, Dragon Lady of Sector C. The lone survivor of an infection attack which occurred 20 years ago. You were just 10 back then."
"Enough honoring our past Kier. Your friend needs you. Meet me at 00:30 tomorrow near the tower gate, I have some tasks to give you."
"You order me too much."
"Well, you owe me something after all."
"Alright. Well look at the time!! It's around 3:00 pm so I should take my afternoon nap. Send my regards to Zae when you visit Sector A for me."
"He's growing up to be like you in heart and mind. Take care my friend. For the time of their rebirth is upon us."
"Will do, now if you'll excuse me."
