~Helena~

Everything was dark.

I tried to gather a thought.

Any thought.

The only one I found

Was Shane

I wake up, jolting in the bed I was in. I look around to find that I'm in Harvey's office. My leg ached. I look down at my leg, shocked to find it wrapped in a cast. Just then, Harvey walks in and smiles.

"Ah, glad to see you're awake Helena." I immediately start signing.

'Where is Shane?'

But the way I sign Shane, is making an S, then placing it over my heart. Harvey, obviously confused, tilts his head at this.

"Where is what?"

'Where. Is. Shane.'

I sign it more fiercefully this time. Harvey thinks for a moment, then his eyes widen in realization.

"Oh, well Shane is in the other office. We're helping him out, but he's not as hurt as you are." He gestures to my leg, but I ignore the pain pulsing from it.

'Is he okay?' Harvey nods.

"Yes, and he would like to see you. Is that okay?"

'Yes'

Harvey opens the door and Shane immediately rushes over to me. He takes my hands in his, spewing his concerns.

"Are you alright? Does it hurt? Can you still sign?" I soundlessly giggle.

'I am fine Shane. Yes, it does hurt and you can see that I can still sign.' He breathes a sigh of relief, then realizes something.

"Oh, we haven't met properly yet." He coughs awkwardly and holds out his hand. "I'm Shane, it's ummm good to meet you..?" I grin at him.

'I'm Helena, as you know. Why did you say you don't understand hands when you do?'

"I uuuhh don't get along well with new people....." Before he can say anything else, I hug him tightly. When I pull away, I sign,

'Thank you for helping me Shane.' Either the pain was making me see things, or his cheeks became lightly dusted with pink.

"Y-you're welcome." He stutters out. "But really, you're the one who should be thanked. If you hadn't come in time, I could've died." He looks me in the eyes. "So thank YOU." I feel my cheeks warm up a bit. From behind Shane, Harvey clears his throat.

"Shane, I think you should get home. Marnie and Jas might be worried about you. Hel, you can stay here for the night."

Shane keeps smiling with a dreamy look on his face, saying goodbye. When he's gone, Harvey turns to me.

"Get some sleep Hel, you deserve and need it."

I lay back down, close my eyes, and slip into a calm sleep where all I could think about was Shane.

~Shane~

I slowly walked home, dreading what Marnie would think. When I quietly opened the door, I see Marnie in the kitchen, putting on shoes to go outside. Most likely to go look for me.

"Aunt Marnie, do you think Shane's okay?" I hear Jas' quiet voice ask.

"I'm not sure sweetie, but right now I just need to find him."

I try to sneak past them to my room, but Marnie spots me.

"Shane!!! Where have you been? It's almost midnight!!!!"

I sigh.

"I'll let Harvey explain in the morning."

"Harvey- Oh my goodness you're hurt!!!" She runs up to me and assesses the damage. "Are you alright Shane."

"Harvey patched me and Hel up, don't worry"

Crap, I shouldn't have said that

"You and Hel? What happened to Hel?"

"HER LEG IS BROKEN BECAUSE OF ME OKAY?????!!!"

I cover my mouth, surprised at my outburst. Marnie looks shocked and Jas looks scared.

"I.." Deep breaths. "don't want to talk about it. Not now."

Without another word, I walk into my room and shut the door tight. I flop onto my bed, snatch a beer bottle, and drink some.

Maybe Hel can fix me.
