Immortality is quite a rare gift. God, Merlin, Zeus, and Cupid are all Immortal. In Greek mythology it is said that if you jump into the River Styx you would become Immortal.

Some people claim that Immortal beings have the power to smite you where you stand with the flick of a finger, and are dangerous and need to be taken care of.

Because of these beliefs the government wants to “silence” all of those who have special gifts. That means not just me, but other people with abilities like me.

The government wants to murder every being of some power no matter how innocent they are.

I am setting out to find other people with abilities like me, to defend ourselves. There is a group of “Specials” like us, but they are for the government’s plan and are helping track down certain beings of immense power and drain them. They call themselves “The Crows”.

This is a journey of life or death, and I’m not about to do it alone. My name is Destiny, and this is my story.

I was running through the darkness of a Chicago alley with an enchanted blade in one hand and holding a bleeding stab wound closed with the other.

The Crows were right on my trail. They had been following me since the Wisconsin border. And they don’t give up easily.

Someone grabbed my shoulder and pulled me close. I threw my head back straight into their nose, whirled around and kicked him into his partner, and stabbed them both through the first guy’s chest.

I found where I was heading for, but it would be suspicious if I went through the front door with a bleeding hole in my side. I scaled up the fire escape, blood pulsing from the wound.

I threw myself inside and landed with a thud on the soft carpeted floor. The Crows were too stupid to look at the fire escape for me.

I heard them run straight past the building yelling for me, and I breathed out a sigh of relief. I pulled my hand away from my side to inspect the gaping hole.

I stripped off my shirt and grabbed a needle and suture thread, hissing through my teeth as I sewed it shut. Grabbing a bottle of whiskey from the shelf I poured it onto the flesh to disinfect.

Reluctantly I threw my shirt in the trash, and pulled on a new one. As I packed my bag full of clothes and weapons I took a swig of the crisp liquor.

I wouldn’t be able to stay the rest of the night as I had planned. Throwing my things over my shoulder I left.

I climbed into my car and took out my phone and dialed the number that was pressed into my mind. He answered on the first ring.

“Katie.” my dad breathed.

“Hi Dad.”

“How are you, is everything okay? Where are you now?”

“I’m fine, just had a little run in with The Crows. I’m in the car heading for the farm.” I said as I turned towards Kentucky.

“What do you mean a run in? Were you hurt?” he asked with worry.

“A small stab wound but I’ll be fine. I’ll be healed by morning.”

“I know that. Why are you heading for the farm?”

“To pick up my things.” I said.

“Oh. I’ll be there in the morning to meet you.”

“No. Dad, they know that’s where I would be going next. I don’t want you to be hurt.”

“I can defend myself, you forgot that I’m special like you.” he told me.

“I didn’t forget. I just don’t want to lose you too.”

“Your mother sacrificed her life for you. She wanted what was best for you.”

“I know that, but-”

I was cut off by the sound of a door being kicked open, and my dad grabbing his shotgun. I heard Jake my dog going crazy in the background.

“Dad!” I screamed into the phone. It was silent on the other end.

“Tansy. I should have known that was you on the other end. “ A man with a deep voice spoke into the phone.

“Senon.”

“Yes it’s me. Miss me?”

“You let my father go! He has nothing to do with this!”

“I know, but I need him to get to you. Get to the farm by morning and I’ll let him live.”

“But it takes a day and a half to get there from here!”

“Then you better drive fast.” Senon said with a laugh and hung up.
