I look up at the bright lights of the gas station ceiling as I am perched on the hood of my car, a cherry red 69’ Firebird. The cool Iowa night chilling me making me pull my jacket closer.

I am about four hours away from Sioux Falls, but my baby was running low.

I jump off the hood when I hear the pump click to a stop. I pull it out and run inside to pay. The warm air from inside giving me warmth.

Moving to stand in line, a family is right in front of me. A little boy and his parents. The boy sees me, smiles and waves. I smile and wave back. His parents turn around and have a horrified look on their face, and hurry him outside to their car.

I sigh deeply and walk forward. “$42 on pump 4.” I say to the man behind the counter. He was about my age with shaggy blonde hair and dull blue eyes.

“Hey awesome contacts man!” He said excitedly pointing to my electric blue eyes. “Oh thanks.” I say with a smile.

“They aren’t contacts.” I wanted to say. It’s what I was given from that shot.

I pass over three 20 dollar bills. He puts it through the register and hands me back 18 dollars and a receipt. I grab it but he doesn’t let go.

“Hey what do you say to coming over to my house after my shift gets over?” He asks.

“How about no.” I sass as I start to walk away with my money. But he grabs my arm.

“Come on sweetheart. Don’t be like that.” I turn around, pull out my dagger and point it at his throat while smiling sweetly.

He gulps, “We don’t need that do we?” I cock my head and say “We don’t if you never touch me again. And want to keep your man parts.”

His eyes wide he lets go of my arm. “That’s better, sweetheart.” I say as I run a finger along his jawline. And walk to the door.

“See you later.” I wave as I walk out the door to my car.

Jumping into my car, I take off down the road again.

I get out of the car, and throw my backpack over my shoulder. Black covered the sky hours ago, so I use my flashlight to guide the way.

Walking through the west woods the dry leaves crunch under my boots. Trees loom up all around me giving off creepy shadows.

Hearing a twig snap I turn around quickly looking for the source. But find a squirrel in my path. Breathing out a sigh of relief I turn back around.

But there right in front of me was a shadow, smiling widely. After a second of shock I finally reached for my sword, but the shadow was faster.

He drove a fist into my stomach and I doubled over, he drove another punch into the space between my shoulder and my neck.

I fall to the ground in a daze, holding my stomach and groaning. The shadow slips behind me and grabs my sword and dagger. Ridding me of all weapons.

He puts them into his weapons belt, and bends down over me. Grabbing my black hair he starts to drag me along, with me pulling at his hands and kicking to try and stand up.

The shadow, sensing my struggles, grips my hair tighter and yanks me up to my feet. I whimper in pain, and reluctantly stand up.

He pushes me along, a hand still in my hair. We walk through the woods for a couple minutes until we reach a small clearing with a fire and two other people.
