Will's POV
After school that day.
As Lily lies here beside me on her bed, I stare at her. She thinks I'm watching her do the really weird thing she does with her tongue, but I'm really just memorizing the details of her face.
I wonder if she knows how I think of her. I wonder if she knows how beautiful she is...I don't think she does...I know she doesn't.
I know you are probably just thinking that I should just tell her how I feel, but...I can't. It wouldn't change anything...
Call me a coward. Call me a wuss. I don't care. I'm not going to ruin something just because I'm selfish.
Everything is going good. I don't want to ruin it. We have been friends since our mom's met at that yard sale twelve years ago. We met when I was six and she was five.
Her mom and her were trying to bargain on an old golf club set for her dad's birthday. They were trying to get two hundred bucks out of 'em. Unknown to my knowledge was that after my mom helped bribe that salesman that he wanted too much for them, that little girl with the two chocolate brown braids and bright smile and I would be best friends for many years.
As I am spaced out, I didn't notice Lily get up. She was over by her closet looking through her clothes. I sit up on the bed and watch her.
Lily turns around and smiles at me. Her smile is still bright, but her hair is no longer in braids. It flows over her shoulders and down her back. It reaches about to the bottom of her rib cage and now it has blonde highlights in it.
"What was wrong with you earlier?" Lily wonders aloud.
"I was just in a bad mood...cause of my dad." Which is only half true.
She nods. "Are you okay, now?"
I nod unwillingly.
She smiles. "Good. You shouldn't let him get to you."
"I don't try to. It's just...hard to accept that my father wouldn't want us...my mom and I."
She sighs and comes up and hugs me. "I know." she says into my chest. I smooth down her hair and look down at her. I hug her back and we stay like that for a long time.
