Lily's POV
September 23rd 8:12am 2019

"Honey, wake up." "Babe...wakey wakey."

I open my eyes and see my mom sitting on the edge of my bed. "Yeah?" I ask groggily.

"You have a doctor's appointment today. Don't forget and it's time for class in an hour. I gotta go to work. So, get your tail movin." She says and smiles. "And happy birthday!!" She says as she leaves the room.

Yeah, it's my birthday. You heard that right. I am now 18. And by classes she she meant college classes. Oh, yay...not...ugh. I'm tired.

I stumble out of bed and turn the radio on.

After I'm dressed and ready, I make my way down the stairs for some breakfast.

Halfway down the stairs, I smell food. Pancakes? Yum.

As I step off the last step, I see the love of my life. He turns around and smiles. "Hey, babe."

"Hey, making pancakes?" I ask.

"Yep, for my favorite girl on her special day."

"Awe, thanks babe."

After we eat breakfast, I thank him and he kisses me.

"I've got a present for you." Will says with a smile.

"Oh, yeah?"

"Yep."

He goes to the other room and picks up a box from the table. Will hands it to me with a smile.

I shake it a little bit and then open the box. I pick up a dark brown book.

"Open it?"

I open it and the first thing I see is a picture of us as kids at the skating rink.

"Will, what is this?" I ask.

"It's a book of our best memories. I've been collecting them for years."

I smile and say "Awe, Will thank you so much. I love it."

He smiles and kisses me until we smell smoke.

He jumps away and turns off the burner. I laugh as he turns around. He smiles at me and kisses me against the wall.

Will's POV
3:37pm

I hear a car pull up in the driveway as I rehearse my speech. I'm standing in front of the front door waiting for it to open. It doesn't open for awhile, but I'm still on one knee with a ring box in my hand.

When it does open, it opens very slowly. And then my smile turns to a worried frown.

Like I knew, it's Lily, but she's not happy. She's crying. It isn't happy tears like I am hoping.

I stand up and rush to her immediately. "Babe, what's wrong? Tell me, babe?" She won't look at me.

"I'm so sorry." She says crying.

"Sorry for what?!" I ask worried.

"I...I have...cancer." she says between snifles.

I am stunned. I don't know what to say... I look at her and embrace her for a really long time.
