Taylor was sitting in a deep gaze staring at her sleeping cats, she's waiting for the arrival of her best friend, and roommate, Karlie who has been away in London for the last two weeks for her job. She is a dancer who has been casted as the lead role of The Nutcracker, and she travels a lot for her job. Taylor has been struggling lately with being alone considering it was the holidays; Taylor's parents had died two years ago, just before she'd met Karlie. Karlie had pretty much saved Taylor after she was diagnosed with depression. Her bubbly personality had brought Taylor back into happier thoughts. Karlie had been her sunshine after all the dark days. They became best friends almost immediately.
Taylor was so deep in thought that she didn't even realized that she had missed two calls from Karlie. She called back immediately hoping that everything was okay, she couldn't lose anyone else."Hello?" Karlie's loud, enthusiastic voice rang through the phone, almost causing Taylor to drop it.
"Hey Karls, everything okay?" Taylor tried her best to hide her concern but she knew it had failed miserably.
"Kinda, but not really," Taylor can hear that Karlie is struggling to continue so she waits a minute before Karlie begins again. "I'm not going to make it home for Christmas." She spits out. They sit in a long, uncomfortable, silence until Taylor speaks up with simple words. "Okay, have fun. Bye Karlie." And hangs up, realizing shes going to be alone for Christmas like the year before she met her best friend. She feels warm tears sliding down her rosy cheeks. The sadness slowly coming to her body.
~DECEMBER 24~
Taylor was cuddling with the gift she'd bought for Karlie, a small yorkie puppy that she had named Joe Joe. The dog had been found outside the apartment and Taylor knew her best friend would love him. So there she was, two cats and a puppy sitting on the couch, alone, no tears left to cry. "Does this officially make me a crazy cat lady with a dog?" She thought to herself.
Taylor was ready for bed, teeth brushed, pets fed and was curled up in bed with her one of her cats, Olivia, sleeping and purring softly. Taylor placed her head on the fluffy pillow and waited for sleep to overcome her tired body. It never came. After a long time of staring at the ceiling, she decided to go down stairs to get a glass of ice water.
She reached into the cold fridge and almost dropped her glass when a sharp, harsh knocking echoed through the kitchen. She looked at the clock on her oven seeing that it was after eleven. "Who the heck would be knocking at my door at eleven?" She walked to the door, unlocked it, and cautiously turned the doorknob. She could feel tears forming in her eyes when her green eyed best friend was standing in front of her. Karlie was standing in the doorway dripping from the rain but a large smile plastered on her face and a large cardboard box in her hands. She placed the box down very carefully and embraced Taylor in a hug that seemed to last a lifetime. "Karlie Kloss you did not lie to me." Taylor says with a grin once their hug is finished. "Well Taylor Swift I very much did lie to you but I think it was worth it." She grins back. Suddenly Taylor runs away into the darkness of her apartment and doesn't return for a few seconds. Karlie starts to think Taylor went back to bed but is proved wrong when her friend returns with a small dog in hand.
"Karlie, meet your Swiftmas gift Joe!" She hands the dog to her shocked roommates, whose hands were shaking profusely. "Oh my lord Tay, he's beautiful!" Karlie says while the dog licks her cheek. She places the dog down and reaches into the large box. She pulls out a small white and orange, Scottish Fold kitten. The cat is eight weeks old and looks just like Meredith and Olivia but is coloured different.
Karlie places her into Taylor's shaking hands and she brings the cat up to her cheek and snuggled her close. "Karlie she's beautiful!" Taylor gushes while stroking the cats orange fur.
"I didn't name her because I thought you'd want to do that that." Karlie smiles after knowing that her best friend isn't sad but is now extremely happy with her new pet.
"Phoebe Buffay from 'Friends.' I think it suits her very well." Taylor says alas Karlie laughs at her friend's TV obsession
Suddenly they are moving closer and closer ever so slowly until finally their lips collide into a soft and meaningful kiss. It was small and short but to them it felt like it lasted a lifetime. As they pull apart they rest their foreheads together and smile.
"Kar, I've wanted to do that since the moment I first saw you." Taylor whispers. Karlie blushes.
"Me too." She replies as they lean in for another soft kiss.
