Chapter Eight: Introductions and New Friends

"Is everything alright?" Ashley asks, distinguishing my silence as one of something being wrong.

"Everything's fine." I reply, not allowing my trepidation present itself. This struggle is mine and mine alone, she cannot and will not be involved in my mess.

My performance must've been satisfiable as she doesn't seem to notice my disquieted appearances. Am I really that good at fabricating a falsification, or is she waiting for the proper moment to question me? Either way, she remains silent, only answering when spoken to. I'm desiderating the idea of just comforting her in any way possible, the thought sings at the top of it's lungs, making itself be permanently stuck in my brain. Only as her melodic laughter sounds in my ears am I torn away from those appealing thoughts.

Ashley's friends keep their eyes on me and her at all times, though she doesn't seem to realize it at the moment. They seem to suspect something between us; I know it's on the tip of their tongues. Finally, she catches one of their gazes. They all exchange a look then turn away, returning to their conversation. The tension flows unhealthily through the air, it's about time I affix to the conversation.

"So. . . when are you going to introduce me to your friends Ashley?" I asked silently, hoping to abolish the anxiety in the air.

All of their eyes fall upon me once again, suspicion glimmers for a moment, but they all smile encouragingly.

"I'm sowwy Sarah." Ashley says, cutely turning the R's in sorry to W's. Her attention sways to the statuesque girl lounging on the white sofa. "Sarah, this is Jasmin." Ashley introduces.

Jasmin abruptly rises to her feet, arriving at our feet in mere seconds from the short distance. She embraces me, as I'm in surprise, her white-blond hair smelling of strawberries. "It's nice to meet you Sarah." Jasmin said, her tone friendly, green eyes sparkling like emeralds.

I return the hug saying, "It's nice to meet you too, Jasmin."

Ashley gazes over at her diminutive friend on the couch. "This amazing midget is Madison." She laughs, playfully toying with her small friend.

Madison jumps up, her small stature really showing, slapping Ashley around. "I'm not a midget, you're just a giant." she replies self-consciously.

"I was just playing with you Maddy, don't get all offended. You know I love you." Ashley tells her sincerely.

"Well... I love you too!!" Madison replies, drawling her sentence out. The small brunette embraces Ashley in a tight bear hug, her size not seeming to fit her strength, as she releases her to allow her to breathe. Her tawny brown eyes fall upon me with extreme intensity, taking in every single detail about me. Seeming to be satisfied with what she finds, she pulls me to her in a tight chokehold. "Welcome to our secret club Sarah!" Madison says jubilantly, a slight energetic smile touching her face.

I raise an eyebrow at her in confusion. "Club? What club?" Ashley laughs at her friends antics, grinning from ear to ear. "We always say that we're a part of a highly exclusive club that only certain people can get into. For that reason, it's only us five in our 'club'." Ashley informs.

"Who's the fifth person?" I ask puzzled, counting only four of them.

"It's a bit obvious isn't it?" Ashley's third friend rises off of the couch. "You're the fifth member now." She explains, her blue and black bangs falling in her face.

Dark indigo eyes gaze into my own, once again I'm being studied by Ashley's best friends as if I'm a criminal. I shudder from the intense stare. "You consider me part of your group already?" I say bemused.

"Of course, any friend of Ashley's is a friend of ours. By the way I'm Allyson, you can call me Ally though." She replies confidently, finally breaking her eyes away from me, seeming to be happy with what she found.

"It's great to meet you Ally. It's nice to meet all of you." I say, looking at all of Ashley's friends with a heartwarming smile.

They all return the smile and go back to lounging on the couch, like they had before the introductions, Ashley pulling me onto the love-seat with her across from her three friends. I awkwardly settle next to Ashley, receiving large amount of pleasure from her closeness. The urge to wrap my arms around her are at an ultimate high, nerves making my stomach quietly growl. Ashley notices the tiny grumble and mistakes it for one of hunger. "Everyone has to be getting hungry, so why don't we go to the mall for lunch?" Ashley suggests. Jasmin, Madison, and Allyson nod in unison, all supporting Ashley's idea. I go along with them after a few minutes of thought, realizing it'd be nice to go out with some new friends. I might even be able to find out more about Ashley. After all, wasn't I supposed to try and enjoy myself like I'd promised?
