Chapter Eleven: Prove It to Me
I squeezed her delicate body against mine, the room around us seeming to fall away from us, only us remaining. She felt so warm and fragile in my arms, as if she could crumble from too tight of a grasp. She had voiced my exact thoughts only moments before, like she was reading my mind and most secret ponderings. The things she did to me, she made me lose all my self control. My animalistic instincts magnified around her, I was afraid to hurt her without realizing it. "I feel the same way." I managed to choke out.
Brilliant blue eyes gazed into my own, attempting to discover my innermost thoughts. "Really?" Ashley ponders this for a moment. "Maybe we knew each other from a past life. . ." her voice fades, for the moment her face tenses in seriousness. "If you believe in that." she adds silently, almost to herself.
"Maybe we did, my family has a. . ." I paused in mid-sentence, deliberating what to say, "Distinct history."
Ashley laughs, patting my leg gently. "What do you mean by 'distinct'?" she asks, curiosity getting the best of her. Her curiosity was rather adorable, the particular way her smile lifted, a secret glint in those perfect sapphire eyes of hers.
Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned it, then I wouldn't be asked this question. I knew I'd have to tell her about it soon, even if I didn't want to. Some think I'm insane at this point, and begin running away from me. Hopefully she won't be like all the others.
"My family supposedly descends from a specific group in ancient times. The traditional Starwell's believed in all the supernatural." I curved around the specific question, begging her to not question me any further.
Either she didn't see the urgency in my eyes, or she had simply ignored it, as she continued with this damned subject. "So, you believe in the supernatural?" Once again her eyes glinted, the way her lips formed in a small grin made my former desire return with even more ferocity.
"I have been taught to believe this, my parents had always been keen on storytelling. Their beliefs are still alive in me even if they're not here anymore." I flinched at those memories, they'd happened too long ago to still feel that happiness I'd felt when they were around.
The pressure from Ashley's grip my leg was relieved, finding her one arm winding around my waist. "I'm so sorry, I didn't realize. Please forgive me, I shouldn't have questioned you like that. I didn't want to believe that the rumors were true. Is it all true?"
I had only been here for a day and a half and someone was already spreading rumors about my family. They knew nothing about me, and they would never find out. Even though tears were beginning to fall down my eyes, they weren't from just sadness. I was extremely angry, my temper rising with every passing minute. However, I was glad Ashley had her arm around me, without that small source of comfort I would've most likely stormed out in my rage, destroying everything that strayed into my path. I wanted to search for the source of the rumor, and once I found them I'd proceed to rearrange their face with my stone fist.
Ashley received my silence as one of sadness, rather than the temper flare I was feeling. She stayed quiet waiting for me to say something, still believing I was sad because of her. It seemed ridiculous to me for her to deem herself responsible for my tears. If anything, I was actually happy that I was here with her, she calmed my raging anger for the one who started the rumors.
"Ashley, please don't be sorry. You have no reason to be remotely remorseful for something you didn't do." I said, finally breaking the silence.
Ashley remains still with her head facing down, my protest not fully convincing her. The sight of her so dejected pulls at my heart-strings, saddening me down to my very core.
"Ashley please look at me." My hand cupped her cheek, lifting her chin up to have her look me in the eyes. Finally, with a little more gentle caresses to her cheek, her eyes gazed deep into my own, pleading for her to understand what I was conveying. "I'm not upset with you. As a matter of a fact, I'm generally happy I'm here with you."
"Really? Then why were you crying?" Ashley's face uplifted a bit, but the smile I'd been waiting for didn't come.
"Those were angry tears with a bit of sadness. Neither were because of you, Ashley." My fingers played with a strand of her hair distractedly, pushing it behind her ear. "People are already gossiping about me and Jason when they don't know me at all. It seriously pisses me off that they act like they know and understand me, talking about my family as if they had been here before. I'm surprised they haven't gossiped about the fact that I'm gay."
Ashley grinned and raised an eyebrow. "You're gay? I didn't notice." She giggled pressing her lips to my cheek. "I am sooo telling everyone." Her laughter filled my ears as she joked.
I laughed along with her, glad she had finally cracked a smile. "Very funny." Her smile was contagious, I couldn't help grinning back.
"I know I am." Ashley's smile became even wider, making her lips even more desirable to me. She seemed to notice my distraction, clearing her throat to gain my full attention. "How can I know that kiss wasn't a fluke?"
That was a sudden change of conversation, I thought. She must've been waiting and wanting to talk about it, just as much as I'd been thinking about it. "What do you mean? That wasn't a fluke Ashley." My tone was serious, yet my eyes smoldered to lighten my voice.
"Prove it then." Ashley said, biting her bottom lip.
This simple act sent me into a craze, I pulled her into me with such force I heard her gasp. My lips crushed into hers, hands clutching the sides of her face with urgency. Ashley's breaths came out in short gasps as I played with her bottom lip, her tongue darting to my lips, slipping inside as I parted my lips, allowing her tongue full access. Our tongues entangled, a slight moan escaping my lips. Ashley pulled away, catching her breath, still seeming to be exasperated by the kiss. "Did that prove anything to you?"
After a moment, Ashley leaned into me, layering my face with small kisses. "Maybe it did maybe it didn't." She giggled as she traced the outline of my cheek. "Of course it did, it also made me realize something."
"What would that be?" I asked her curiously. I would've been glad if she had said that I hadn't proved anything, it meant me kissing her once more and I was dying for another one.
"I really like you Sarah. Even if you don't return my feelings I needed you to know." Ashley looked down sadly, the thought obviously troubling her.
"Well, there is someone I'm kind of interested in." I raised my eyebrows, watching her reaction. Her shoulders slumped in dejection. I lifted her chin, demanding her to look me directly in the eyes. "And she has the most beautiful blue eyes I've ever seen."
