chapter 7: havent you heard?

marcus pov//
it's been two days since i last spoke to luna. i haven't heard from her and she hasn't answered me. she wasn't at school on friday. after that day in the cemetery i felt so bad for her. martinus really messed up. i shouldn't have gone along with it. we decided to stop by her house to see if she was okay. maybe she just doesn't wanna come out.

marcus-"martinus i'm worried. i haven't heard from her in two days. she hasn't come to school or answered my calls."

martinus-"she is probably just writing in her room that's what she always does. whenever she was upset she would hide out in her room with her journal."

marcus-"wow you actually paid attention when we were friends didn't you?"

martinus-"i have a heart you know."

we got up to her door. i knocked on. her mom opened the door. she looked like she had been crying for hours.

marcus-"hi mrs. anderson. is luna home?"

mrs. anderson-"oh you boys haven't heard. well i'm sorry to tell you this but i haven't heard from luna in two days. she took off after friday. she left a note and we don't know where she went. we filed a report but the police haven't found anything."

i was in utter shock. i can't believe she's gone. no we need to find her. i just looked at her. i had no words.

martinus-"i'm so sorry to hear that."

marcus-"can we see the note? maybe we can figure it out."

mrs. andersen-"you boys marcus and martinus she adored you guys. especially you marcus. how excited she was when you guys started talking to her again. her whole world was so much better. she was always alone you know. she didn't have many friends. thank you for being her friends. i'm hoping maybe she will reach out to you."

she gave us a hug. i had never heard of something so heartbreaking. watching her mom in front of me crying because her daughter is gone. what if that had been my mom. i can't imagine the pain she is going through. and luna. wherever she is she needs to know she is loved. her mom went upstairs and handed me and martinus the note that was last scribbled in her journal. surprising that she didn't bring it along.

i knew it was too good to be true. to have a friend and a boyfriend. it was all gonna end somehow. but not like this. i'm sorry jaime. i wish i had more time with you. it should be me dead not you. why did life have to take you so soon? you had so much left in you. i wish i could be with you today. how you loved your birthday so much. the same cake from our favorite bakery and everything about you. i love you forever. if you knew i was dating marcus you would stand up for me and protect me from him. how you loved the twins when you were 7 and i was 10. marcus was always so nice to you. you would always play together and he would include you and all. you always asked for him and he did for you. he asked about you the other day. he didn't know. i didn't know what they were like. they won't see me again. nobody will. i will be with you once and for all.

i couldn't believe what i was reading. it made me happy and sad. happy to read about how jaime loved me so much but sad to see that luna feels so alone in this world. she needs to know people care about her. and the last line. she is going to hurt herself! tears started forming in my eyes and martinus saw me.

martinus-"marcus it's okay. she will be okay."

marcus-"i love her martinus. she needs to know that. can we please find her."

martinus-"we will find her. i promise. let's go looking right now. any ideas where she would be?"

marcus-"i wouldn't even know where to look. i mean there was that one place she always took us when we were younger."
