All In A Day's Work

Tierra absolutely loved being in the big city. To some, Springfield, Massachusetts may not have been all that big, but being as she was from a small town in Virginia, it appeared big to her. Here, she could hide in plain sight amongst everyone, and no one would actually notice how lonely and unhappy that she was. And besides, Springfield was neighbored by several other small cities that were all within minutes of each other, so she always had a variety of places to go and things to do.

Secretly, deep inside, she craved for someone to notice her inner pain. She envied the couples that'd walk by her on their lunch break, holding hands, laughing, and smiling, while enjoying those brief moments of stolen joy together.

Just once, she wished that she was getting dressed up for personal reasons. For once, she wanted to walk into a room and watch the eyes of the one who'd professed his love to her, light up, just by the sight of her. Instead, here she was still going to restaurants, charity events, and business functions... alone.

To be truthful, love was something that she'd just given up on. In fact, it'd really never been an option for her. It was a chapter in her life that had no intentions to write, or even think about writing. Well, that's what she tried to convince herself of anyway.

More so, she felt that she had no time for love right now anyway. She was passionately focused on work and being the best at what she did. She was determined to not only break through, but tear down the 'all boys club,' at Baxwell Enterprises. So far, she was doing just that. Her focus left her no room, for extracurricular activities. There was no way, she was about to risk her status, hard work or her heart and gamble on a relationship, and possibly end up like the secretaries at the office; miserable, crying and whining because some guy didn't return a phone call.

No way!

Not ever!

Not Tierra Rodriquez!

"Ms. Rodriquez, you have a call on line one," her secretary Terri suddenly informed her through the intercom.

"Who is it Terri?" Tierra asked, a bit irritated.

"It's Mr. Markis, from Markis Entertainment."

"Put it through," she instructed her.

Markis Entertainment was the biggest music industry client that she had. A few days earlier she'd negotiated a deal for one of their Hip Hop artists, whereas they'd sign to a major record label.

She figured that Markis just probably wanted to discuss a few things with her concerning the deal.

"Yes Markis, what can I do for you this morning?" she inquired, removing one of her diamond studded, heart shaped earrings, so that she could cradle the receiver to her ear more comfortably.

"Tierra girl, whatever you did with that Banks Project I love you for it! Your negotiating skills, oh wow, I swear they're like pure magic!

"If I wasn't happily married, hell, I'd propose to you myself."

He laughed excitedly.

"Honestly, you have such a strong business sense, and you know how to command a boardroom, like a seasoned Conductor of a symphony. I have to agree with Markis, I wish that you were on our personal payroll," Markis' wife and business partner, Bridget interjected, with praise and admiration.

Mr. & Mrs. Markis Bonya, were the 'Will and Jada' of the music industry in New England... refined and mega talented. There was rarely anything remotely close to any kind of negative press against them. Heck, you rarely even heard anything about them at all until 'BAM!'... and all of a sudden there they were front and center, commanding your attention!
