The Thing VS Sergeant Johnson

Forerunner Installation

On a frozen, barren world, a high energy signature was detected by a nearby UNSC outpost, after finding the source, it was discovered that a small Covenant force was guarding and searching an unknown instillation that was integrated into an ice cavern. But once a second signature of energy was released, the Battlecruiser immediately retreated, leaving nearly a hundred Covenant forces behind. When a company of marines led by Sergeant Johnson to attack the Covenant forces, scouts saw that they looked frightened and confused about what was going on, giving the marines the perfect opportunity to attack and defeat them.

"Alright ladies!" Sergeant Johnson shouted at the group of marines that lined up on his sides, all armed with assault rifles and battle rifles. "The Covenant bugs have been really keen on securing whatever they found on this cold rock and it's our job to find out what it is, and how we can use it to tear the Covie's intestines from their stomachs and laugh while they drown in their own blood!"

Johnson loaded his shotgun with several shells as he looked out at his men. "Am I right marines?"

"Sir yes sir!" They all shouted in unison.

"Now, I want one half of you with me as we get inside this thing," he gestured to the installation's entrance. "And I want the rest of you to set up a small base camp under that cliff." He pointed his shotgun to the ledge that gave a high roof of cover near the entrance.

The marines nodded and went to their work, pelicans and supply vessels flew in and dropped up equipment quickly and the base camp was built in a little over an hour.

"Marine!" Johnson called to a young soldier, David, who was working furiously on the access pad by the entrance to the instillation. "How soon can you get this thing open?"

"Just a second sir," he paused to type in a digit code, "it looks like the Covenant wanted to keep this thing locked up."

"Just do it son." Johnson replied as  several other marines grabbed their rifles and readied themselves to go in the instillation. David nodded while typing several commands onto the security pad, and a few seconds later, the door opened.

A pair of marines rushed in first, rifles ready, followed by another pair and Johnson, then finally along with David who finished his work on the pad.

"Fan out! Look for anything the Covie's may have found." Johnson ordered.

Suddenly, the sound of an explosion roared through the empty chambers, followed by an alien shriek followed by several shots of plasma. Johnson quickly rushed towards the explosion, and discovered one of the corridor doors was torn open, revealing a deep cave of ice. But as the smoke and plasma cleared, a strange looking, saucer-like ship that was frozen in the ice, other than a gaping hole in it's side. Next to it, laid two dead elites and a grunt, one of which was heavily disfigured, and what frightened the group was the fact it appeared to have two different faces and some sort of tentacles that were stretching apart.

"Marines!" A pair of soldiers rushed behind Johnson. "Grab that ugly thing, bring it to the campsite for examination."

Johnson turned to a marine carrying a small radio on his back, and addresses him saying, "Blair, contact the frigate in orbit and get someone from intelligence to help us figure out what this place," he gestured to the ship, "what this thing is."

Blair nodded and went to work. David and another marine quickly dragged the strange looking elite out of the corridor and outside the main chamber. What were they fighting here? Johnson thought to himself. They seemed, scared. Johnson shook his head in confusion.
