Nathaniel: This is the part of my day where I realized things would never be the same from now on. This assembly was going to be interesting, this is the year we get a new Protagonist of the Year.

Calli: Actually, this is the part of the story where everyone's day would be interesting, but not in the way Nathaniel thinks.

~Emmett~

One by one other candidates and members of Nathaniel's podcast team entered the gym. The Podcast team quickly began to set up video camera's and microphones.

"What are the cameras for?" I asked Nathaniel.

"We wanted to film this interview instead, that way the readers wouldn't get confused." He said while he put on his microphone.

"Readers?" I asked.

"It's a narrator thing." A girl with black hair in a ponytale said. Her and Nathaniel seemed to have worn matching outfits today.

Calli: That girl was me, and yes me and my cousin were matching.

I shrugged off Nathaniel's comment and let them set up. I could see my mother standing at the center of the stage as I sat on the edge of it.

"You look nervous Mom. Is everything alright?" I asked.

She turned to me, her bright blue eyes were being covered by stressed strands of strawberry blonde hair that was tied back with a bun. She held her hair together with a pen in her bun as she moved the loose strands away from her face.

"Everything is just fine, it's just what the other half of the assembly will be about." She said turning back to her papers on the podium in front of her.

"Other half?" I asked while jumping off the stage. I fixed my hair which was still a mess from this morning.

"It's something I cannot explain in a short matter, you will find out later. I'm just nervous to see how the student body will take this information." She said as she fixed the collar of her dress. Standing behind that podium made her look more important than she already is. This morning she seemed different, she seemed more worried and nervous rather than curious and wondrous. I had something that worried me as well, I could never tell my mother though. She had instituted this school, a catholic school I might add.

I didn't mind that though, I am a proud catholic if I do say so myself. But since she came from Overland and grew up in a religious household, my mother wanted to share these Overland ideas with all of us. I just wish I had as much courage as Elijah does, I don't even know if my mother will ever accept me if I tell her that i'm... gay. It just isn't right to see homophobic assholes like Jack Clubs going after people because of who they love. But I also didn't want my mother to feel as if she had lost another person in the family. If only dad were here, he would know what to do.

"Nathaniel, we have approximately twenty minutes before any of the student body get's here. Would you like to begin the interviews." My mother had said.

"Absolutely Ms. Liddell." Nathaniel said very enthusiastically.

I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't notice the many candidates sitting in an array of chair on stage.

"Emmett, grab a chair, we mustn't waste time." My mother said with a smile.

I jumped up on stage and walked towards an empty chair. I sat in between Mason and Electra, luckily I didn't sit next to Savanna, she is nothing short of rotten.

"Alright everyone, are you all ready to be interviewed?" Nathaniel said excitedly... again.

We all nodded, some cheered, I smiled a little. I didn't really want to be Protagonist of the Year anymore. In fact I didn't want to be heir to the throne of Wonderland, I would must rather be an adventurer, or better yet start a band and travel the world. My father had given me a guitar before he disappeared out of the blue. My mother thought he was crazy to give a five year old a guitar, but my father was always full of crazy ideas. I wish he didn't disappear, it would be nice if something made sense for a change.
