Newt and I were discussing different materials, sizes, and specifics of the pens, cages, and habitats that we wanted to build. We were also trying to get some of our homework in, between the ideas..

"Crystal?" Newt asked, slightly nervous.

"Yes?" I said, keeping my eyes fixed on my potions homework, while answering his question.

"Well, you see... My brother, you know, Theseus, and I are going to Romania for Christmas holiday, to look for creatures and such, and, well... I already asked him if this was alright, but... Well, would you like to come with us?" He asks avoiding eye contact with me, and rubbing the back of his neck

"I would love to!" I answer, without skipping a beat. My heart was swelling up with excitement, nervousness, and pure, concentrated joy that I will be spending Christmas holiday with Newt and his brother looking for creatures.

"Great!" He gleams, smiling ear to ear, finally looking up, since he no longer had any reason to worry. "We leave the day holiday starts, and we have to spend a day at his house, since, well, we are underage, we have to do some paper work, and then we leave," he tells me. I paid as close attention as I could, without losing my attention in his eyes.

"Oh, this is amazing! I've never been outside of the country before."

"It's beautiful around Christmas," With a goofy smile on his face, "I went last year with him."

We sat there in silence for a few minutes, while we continued to focus on our work.

"So, are you ready for your quidditch practice tomorrow?" I asked.

"Yes, well, I suppose. I do enjoy it, but I'd much rather spend time working on my case," he confessed.

"I know, but you're really good, so I say continue with quidditch, at least for this year, and see what you think is best next year," I encouraged.

"Well, I guess that you're right. Um... Will you be there to watch tomorrow?" he asked, hopefully.

I always went to watch him practice, even though it wasn't a match. I loved to see how happy he got while playing, and it surprised me that Newt, the clumsy Newt, had better coordination on a broom twenty feet above the ground than on his own two feet.

"I can't I said I would help the divination professor sage the room. Honestly, I can't even remember why I agreed to do it," I said, looking at the lake. It's clear water was rippling, as fish, as well as the giant squid, came up for breadcrumbs that the students would throw in.

"Because you're a nice person," he said, looking down and blushing.

"Aw, thanks Newt." I said, laying my head on his shoulder. It was so comforting. It felt like a pillow that I never wanted to get off of, but soon, I jolted my head off as I realized something.

"Oh my, it's already lunch time!" I said, looking at everyone walking back into the school .

"Already covered," he said, with a proud smile on his face.

He took a small basket out of his bag, and removed some food from it.

"Oh, Newt, you didn't have to do this. Chocolate-covered cherries!" I said in delight. Those had always been my favorite.

"I remembered that you liked them, so I made some the other day. I also packed some other food that I know we both like." he said, very pleased.

I looked at the food, and realize that he was right. The cherries, bagels with grape jam, and so many sweets that I couldn't name them all!

"Oh, Newt, this is wonderful!" I said, with a surprised tone.

"It's just a thank you for helping me with my creatures," he said, looking down.

"Oh, Isn't this sweet," I heard a voice say.

I look up to see Leta, with two of her friends.

"Oh, hello Leta," I said, trying to keep a smile on my face.

"What are you two doing?" Leta asked, smiling politely, but her eyes said something else.

"Oh, schoolwork. Crystal is such an excellent teacher," Newt said, smiling at me.

I looked down, feeling myself blush.

"Oh, Newton! If you needed help with your classes, you could have just come to me! I am a great student, after all," Leta said, saying something braggy in a very polite tone, almost... flirty.

"Oh, well, thank you, Leta, but, It's just... Crystal and I are in the same house, so, it just makes sense for us to work together," Newt admitted.

"Oh," Leta said, sounding almost hurt, but going back to her usual self quickly, "I see. Just remember that we have known each other for a long time, so I will always have time to work with you, Newton" Leta said with a smile at him, but looking at me very seriously, when saying how long they had been friends.

"Thank you," Newt said, smiling politely, then immediately going back to a neutral expression and working on his paper.

"I'll see you around, Newton!" Leta said, leaving, not paying attention to me at all.

I could hear Newt sigh, and I rested my head on his shoulder again.. We sat there in silence, not talking or working on anything. Just listening to the water ripple in the lake, and each others breathing. It was so calming, almost like a lullaby. I closed by eyes, listening to the birds, the water, and his breath. I felt like I was nowhere, when I tuned out all other sounds, and just heard his breath. Unknowingly, I synchronized my breathing with his, causing me to feel closer to him.

"Crystal?" Newt asked, breaking the silence. All I could hear was him.

"Yes, Newt?" I responded, with my eyes still closed.

"I'm glad that we are friends, and I love how close we are to each other. Could... could you promise me that we will always be this way?" He seriously asked. I could hear his voice nearly coming to tears. He was always sensitive, crying at simple things, but pretending to be strong until the tears flowed.

"I promise."
