Chapter 6
I was sitting on the couch Tuesday night. The sun had barely set and Jacob was still asleep. Meg was out again, probably at a meeting. The phone started to ring.
“Hello,” I answered. Jacob never told me not to answer.
“Well, hello Princess, how are you doing?” A man’s voice rang in my ear.
“Who is this?” I asked steadily, wrapping my finger around the white phone chord.
“Sweetie, it doesn’t matter how I am. All that matters is I can kill him. That’s what matters isn’t it?” He hissed through the line.
“How?” A chill ran down my back.
He laughed heavily, “We wouldn’t let him get away that easy. We know your weakness Princess. For his sake, and yours you better listen to what I have to say.”
“What do you want?”
“Now that’s what I like to hear, meet me in twelve days, under the full moon… at the cave in front of the waterfall.” I could feel his smile through the phone. “That’s right Princess, I know everything. Don’t forget.” The line ended.
Jacob walked down the stairs and sat beside me. He placed his arms around me and whispered in my ear, “I knew what you were thinking a couple nights ago.” His warm breath filled my ear. “Do I really look that good?” I laughed and punched him in the arm. Whatever I did I couldn’t think of what just happened. Crap, I did it. He heard me too, “What just happened?” He rose from the couch and stared right at me. I stayed quiet, “What just happened?” He repeated. I was about to speak when I was saved by a knock on the door.
He walked to the door and hid me behind him. The door opened quietly as a familiar face peered into view. His short brown hair was combed to the side and his brown eyes sparkled. I moved out from behind Jacob, “Caleb!”
“Willow!” He yelled back.
“I’m so happy to see you and to know that you’re okay!” I yelled still hugging him.
“Okay, okay we’re all happy to see each other, no need to continue yelling.” Jacob glared at me; his face serious and angry as always. I smiled as Caleb released me.
“Who are you?” Jacob asked Caleb.
“I’m Willow’s best friend.” He poked me in the waste, “The name’s Caleb Drudgery.” I followed Jacobs’s eyes to me and Caleb’s enclosed hands, and pulled away slightly.
“Right… and why are you here?” Jacob asked.
“To help you guys out.” He glared at Jacob.
“We don’t need your help.” Jacob growled.
“Yeah, that’s why you turned Willow into a blood sucking monster. You took her life away. It looks like to me you need-” Jacob had thrown him up against the wall and wrapped his hands around his neck.
“Jacob, stop! You’re hurting him!” I yelled but was ignored.
“I did it because I couldn’t let her die! Excuse me for saving her life.” He stated.
“Do you think you love her? Is the same thing that happened to Sallie going to happen to her? You might have saved her in the human world but you’re going to wreck her in this one.”
