Maybe you had taken the wrong turn in your haste to get away from Peter.
Or maybe it was the fact that you forgot that he had taken you to a part of the city you never bothered to venture before and had completely forgotten to ask him to at least take you home after you snapped at him.
None of that really mattered now since it was nearing 8 PM and you still hadn't made it home. It had been almost been 3 hours since school let out and almost 2 hours since you decided to ditch Peter outside the yogurt joint.
Once again, you had let your emotions get in the way of letting you react logically to the fact that you didn't know where the hell you were going after turning your back on the brunette. Your pride and anxiety didn't let you ask for directions when the sun was still out along with other people. And sometime during that, you had decided to take what you thought was a 'right' turn only for it to be wrong. Pun intended.
Now you were in a neighborhood you had no idea even existed with sore feet and a dead phone. To say that this particular neighborhood looked uninviting and, dare you say, a little ghetto was an understatement. You'd flinch and pick up your pace each time you heard screaming and arguing from one of the households, holding onto the strap of your backpack just a little bit tighter as you tried to ignore the fact that your body just might end up being found in a ditch later this week.
It wasn't until the houses gave way to some department stores that you began to almost trot. It should have given you some ease that there seemed to be little to no people around here, but all those thriller movies you'd seen in the past seemed to only make you more paranoid. You frantically glanced into every small alleyway you passed hoping that no one would jump out and stab you. So far the coast seemed to be cleared.
"You should really leave the whole superhero business to Spider-Man, Peter," you grunted, mocking yourself from earlier.
Your anger decided to make way for regret as you trudged along down the sidewalk. You almost moaned in guilt and self-stupidity. You were almost 100% sure that Peter wasn't going to want to talk to you after you snapped at him. Hell, if it were possible, you'd probably stop talking to yourself too. You stopped in your tracks for a moment, thinking that over in your mind before saying it out loud.
"I'd probably stop talking to myself if it were possible," you mused, realizing how weird that would have sounded if someone were there to hear you.
As if to remind you that you were still in a creepy part of the city, the laughing and joking of some people ahead of you brought you back to reality. You blinked once before coming to the decision to swallow your pride and lack of social skills to ask for directions. Who knew when you'd get home if you didn't otherwise, right?
You continued to walk forward, reciting how you'd ask for directions before being on your way.
"Excuse me, I'm lost. You don't look like a bunch of murderers; can you please give me some directions?" You cracked a smile to yourself as you tried to make out the faces of these strangers the closer you got.
You took in a deep breath once you saw that they in fact did not look like a bunch of serial killers. You let out your breath in a heavy sigh and called out to them.
"Hey! Hi," you began, beaming sheepishly once you caught their attention. You fidgeted a bit, making sure to keep your distance of a few feet just to be safe. Upon closer inspection you noticed that it was just two men who seemed to be in their late twenties with nice, casual clothing on. They seemed normal and normal people are always willing to help someone out. At least that's what you thought.
"Hm?" one of them hummed, not hiding the fact that he was very much checking you out.
'Gross,' you thought, trying to ignore him and turning to his friend instead who had this smile playing at his lips.
