Hunger Games (reversed)

Chapter 1

Peetas pov

I wake up early this morning. Today is a special day, it's the reaping day. Every year there's the Hunger Games. 1 girl and 1 boy from each of the 12 districts go into an arena to fight to the death and only one comes out alive. Each girl and boys name gets entered in a jar and a lady from the Capitol picks one name in each jar. I take a quick shower then go downstairs to work in the bakery. My family owns a bakery in the upper part of town. We are considered the richer family's, because most of District 12 is complete poverty.

I'm putting on my apron when my mom comes in grumbling, "Peeta! Did you make your bed!?"

"No sorry I'll do it in a second." I say quietly.

She comes by and slaps me across the face,"your so useless! Why couldn't you at least make your bed! Just get to work!"

I don't let her get to me like I used to. She's been abusing me and my two older brothers since we were little. We decided not to tell our dad though. It's better if he doesn't know. Today we're really busy because everyone eats full meals after the tributes get choosen. Everyone keeps wishing me goodluck. It's not going to help. My name is entered in there about 15 times. I know that's not much compared to other peoples. I know Gale, a kid that goes to our school, is entered almost 70 times. After lunch I go upstairs to get ready for the drawing. I get on my best shirt and pants and gel back my hair. I leave for the reaping early to see my girlfriend Delly.

"Hello gorgeous" I say giving her a quick kiss

"Hey Peeta" she says, "ready for the reaping?"

"Ready as I'll ever be." I say grabbing her hand.

We check in together and wait in the waiting area where all the kids 12-18 wait to see whose going into the arena. The boys go on one side and girls on the other. I say goodluck to delly and give her a quick goodbye kiss. I stand on the boys side and go by my friends. In a few minutes an annoying Capitol lady comes on stage with bright hair and ridiculous clothing on.

"welcome to the 74th annual hunger games!"

She plays a short video then says she'll start with the lady's. She puts her hand in the girls jar with all the slips of papers with the names on them. She unfolds the paper and speaks into the microphone,"Primrose Everdeenn!"

All eyes go to a innocent little girl. It's defiantly not fair. She's probably entered once in that whole jar. The Capitol are screwed up people.

"I VOLUNTEER" I hear a girl scream "I VOLUNTEER AS TRIBUTE"

She looks familiar. It's Primrose's sister, katniss. One time a couple years back it was when District 12 was in a depression, worst then it is now, and I accidentally burned a loaf of bread. After getting a beating from my mother, she made me feed it to the pigs outside. It was cold outside and raining and katniss was looking through the garbage cans, she just lost her dad in a coals mining accident and had to get food for her mom and sister. I decided to throw her the loaf of bread and she looked like I gave her a million dollars. She's also been In almost every one of my classes. Katniss makes her way to the stage as Gale hold back Prim and the Capitol lady Effie makes katniss give a short explanation of her name and her sister prim.

"And next, the boys." Effie sticks her hand in the jar and picks a card and flattens it out,"Peeta Mellark"

Wait.... What? Me! I stay there in shock and slowly walk to the stage.

Effie makes me tell everyone my name and makes me shake hands with Katniss.

"Everyone! Your 74th HungerGames District 12 tributes!"

We get shoved into the Justice Building to get goodbyes from friends and family's. First my family comes in and my dad and brothers are crying.

"I love you son. I always have.

Goodluck Peeta, you can do it" he says. They all give me hugs except my mom who stands in the corner balling.

"Peeta.... I'm ... So.... Sorry" she says in between sobs.

The Peacekeepers come to take them away. Next Delly comes in and gives me a hug.

"Peeta, I love you. But I have to tell you something. I know how every girl felt about you. They all loved you, but you chose me. I don't know why but I've been cheating on you. I'm so sorry."

The peacekeepers take her away too and she starts crying. I'm done with everyone hurting me. A bunch of friends come to say goodbye. And even a few teachers. After all the visits and goodbyes I board a train that will take up to the Capitol to get ready for the Games. Effie Trinket keeps talking and boarding me and katniss on the Train and puts us in a food cart. I'm suddenly not hungry anymore. I sit across from katniss. I look across to actually look at her. I haven't noticed till now how beautiful she really is.
