Chapter 8

Peeta's pov

I'm sitting with Effie, Haymitch, and our stylists and hear Katniss coming out of the elevator. Effie stands and calls to her Katniss. Instead of Katniss answering, I hear her crying and then a door is slammed. Wow, what happened in there?

"What is Katniss's problem?" I ask. That was so rude of her to just leave like that.

"Don't be so harsh on her boy, not everyone has a session like yours," Haymitch says sipping on his scotch.

Haymitch stands with Effie and I watch them walk down the hall to Katniss's room. About 15 minutes they come back, but still no signs of Katniss. That bad?

I decide to go back to my room and take a nap before dinner. When Effie knocks on my door I go right out. The scores are going to be released tonight.

I take my seat joinging Haymitch, Portia and Cinna. Effie must have went to get Kaniss. The Avox serving us brings out soup for our main dish. I take a a sip, it's delicious! I look up from my bowl and see Katniss and Effie walk into the room. Katniss's eyes are red and puffy, from crying. As she sits down in the empty chair across from me, I can't take my eyes off her. Why is she acting like this? Why did she run to her room crying and not tell any one why? I give her a look hoping she knows what I'm thinking. She shakes her a little then looks back down at her soup.

"Okay, enough small talk, just about how bas were you today," Haymitch asks.

I answer right away, "I don't know that it mattered. By the time I showed up, no one even bothered to look at me. They were singing some kind of drinking song. I think. So, I threw around some heavy objects until they said I could go."

"And you sweatheart?" Haymitch says.

Katniss looks up, a little mad. "I shot an arrow at the Gamemakers."

What! What!! How could she do that! Now I understand why she's acting like this! What if she killed one of them! Everyone stops eating at once, and my mouth hangs open a little. How stupid can this girl be?!

"You what?" Effie's face is horrified.

"I shot an arrow at them. Not axactly at them. In their direction. It's like Peeta said," She says. Me?! "I was shooting and they were ignoring me and I just.... I just lost my head, so I shot an apple out of their stupid pig's mouth!"

"And what did they say?" says Cinna.

"Nothing I think. I walked out after that," Katniss says nonchalantly. This girl is out of control.

"With out even being dismissed?" Effie gasps.

"I dismiss myself," Katniss says. Well, who can argue with that great logic.

"Well, that's that," Haymitch says and takes a roll from the basket.

"Do you think they'll arrest me?" Katniss asks, pain in her voice.

"Doubt it. Be a pain to replace you now," Haymitch says.

"What about my family?" she says a little shakey. "Will they hurt them?"

"Don't think so. Wouldn't make much sense. See, they'd have to reveal what happened in the Training Center for it to have any worthwhile effect on the population. People would need to know what happened, and its a secret, so it would just be a waste of effort," Haymitch says. "More likely, they'll make you're life hell in the arena.

"Already promised to do that to us anyways," I pipe while playing with my soup.

"Very true boy," Haymitch adds to my statement. I think Haymitch noticed the pain in Katniss's voice, too because he grabs his meat with his fingers and takes a huge bite. Effie squeals in dismay.
