Peetas POV
I'm woken up by Portia before dawn and am given a simple outfit to wear. I don't see Katniss is the morning. Portia leads me to the roof and a hover craft flies in and drops a ladder for us to climb. I place my feet on the lowest rung and I'm frozen. Some sort of current glues me to the ladder as I'm lifted inside.
I'm still stuck on the ladder when a women in a white coat approaches me, "This is just your tracker, the stiller you are the easier it will be and the less it will hurt."
I'm still glued and can't move even if I wanted to. She sticks the needle in my forearm deep under my skin. The metal tracking device is inserted. The Gamemakers will now easily know exactly where I am in the arena. They wouldn't want to lose a tribute.
Finally I am released from being a statue. Portia is now sent up from the ladder and we are sent to a room for breakfast. I'm not too hungry, but Portia makes me eat some of my omelet and a piece of toast.
"You'll thank me later," she assures me. I make myself eat the food, although it just sits wrong in my stomach. I'm so nervous.
The room becomes dark in seconds when the windows black out.
"We're almost there," Portia says so calm. The hovercraft lands and we are released the same way we were taken in. We are led down a tube underground and we follow the Avox leading us to our destination.
We enter the 'Launch Room', but back at home? We call it the Stockyard. The place animals go before slaughter.
The room is simple, and small. I will be the only tribute to every use this room, arenas are made new every year. After the games, they are used for a destination site for Capitol people. Some people even vacation here and rewatch the Games during their visit.
There's a hidden bathroom behind the wall and I shower and brush out my wet hair. I brush my teeth, and Portia brings me the outfit I'll be wearing. I am placed in simple tawny pants, and a black t shirt. Over that, is a hooded jacket.
"The jacket will help reflect body heat. I'd expect cool night," Portia says warning me.
Portia helps me put on my socks and boots. "Good for running, expect empty spaces, be prepared for anything."
I'm finally dressed and ready. It takes everything in me not to be sick right now.
"Are you okay? Everything feel comfortable?" Portia asks.
I takes a few steps and lift my arms up and down. "Everything feels fine."
"Nothing left to do know but wait, want to eat anything else?" Portia asks.
"No thank you, but can I have some water please?" I ask.
"Of course," Portia says and the Avox comes back with a glass filled with water. I take a big gulp, and sit on the couch with Portia gripping my hands. I'm terrified. I have never been this scared in my life. I am going into that arena and could be dead, eaten alive by a wild animal or killed by a fellow tribute before the end of the night. And if I survive that? I still will have to stay alive for several other days.
I feel my bumpy arm, and as I run over the exact spot, pain rushes through my body.
"Want to talk?" Portia asks.
"No, but thank you for everything Portia," I say and smile. Her smile hands are still gripping on mine and it's warming.
A female voice announces it is time for launch. Now, I'm the one clenching Portia's hands.
"Remember Peeta, find water. Run, run as fast as you can. You can do this. I believe in you. Think of anything you can useful where ever you find yourself," Portia says about to cry. But she's stronger than that.
