"Get out of my way, asshole." I say as I glare at my twin brother, Alex. His bouncer-like structure fills the back doorway that leads straight outside and into the woods, where I was planning on going for a run.
"Why don't you make me, Grace?" Alex taunts, getting a sparkle in his peridot colored eyes. He was enjoying frustrating me, but what sibling doesn't?
"Seriously Alex. Move. Now." I snarl with the last words, making them their own sentences. I have nothing on my brother's structure, but my strength was a different matter, especially when I was mad, and he knew that.
"What's your problem? Did Alpha ground you again? Or Luna? You look like you could rip somebody's head off." He slightly steps out of the doorway and I use the chance to barge pass. "Fine. Tear my arm out of my socket. That works too." I hear him fall into step behind me, but I continue to ignore him.
See, I'm a werewolf. My whole family is a pack of werewolves. But the complication is that, we aren't just any pack. Oh no, I'm the daughter of the Alpha. Anybody else would enjoy being the Alpha's daughter, but when you are harped upon to be just like your older sister, you tend to want to rip off the Alpha's head. All the time.
And it doesn't end there. When you are Alpha blood, a lot more is expected out of you than anyone else. So yesterday, when you dye your natural blonde hair to an unnatural purple when your parents are gone, and they come back early and see you dye your hair, they tend to get angry. And when the Alpha is angry and you are the Alpha's daughter, you tend to get grounded. Hypothetically.
My now purple hair matches my naturally purple eyes, which all the girls in my dad's--I mean, the Alpha's--side of the family inherits. The Alpha is never called Dad, or Sir, or Mr. Alesecki, or Robert (except by Mom--Luna). He strictly forbids it.
And the whole 'only-shifting-when-there-is-a-full-moon' thing is a total scam. We can shift whenever we want to. Example, right now.
I shift and as soon as my front paws hit the ground, I'm off. I feel Alex shift. Mentally, of course. When we shift, the wolves in our pack share a mental link. Kind of like signing on to the internet. And our clothes shift with us, thankfully. I'm glad I don't have to worry about shifting in front of everyone and be naked.
Grace, why are you ignoring me?
Because.
That's not an answer...
It is now.
I block him out, trying to enjoy the tension releasing from the run. Why am I the one who gets in trouble? Last week, Alex got a tattoo that wasn't the pack's symbol, and all he got was a smack on the back of the head! But when I go dye my hair, which isn't as permanent as a tattoo might I add, I get grounded and am forced to go to a normal school!
Werewolves don't go to school. I know what you're thinking, 'You're so lucky! I wish I didn't have to go to school!' I may not go to school, but I do have training. Training is twice as hard as school, but it is also more fun. Being a werewolf and being forced to go to school is low. Add being Alpha's daughter to that, and that is ego deteriorating.
Grace...
I automatically stop and spin on my paws to face him. He screeches to a stop just shy of running into me. I bare my teeth and growl, warning him, and start stalking towards him. He takes a defensive stance, ready to put me on my ass.
Grace, I just want to talk!
I tackle him to the ground, snarling in his face.
Leave me alone! Don't you see I don't want to talk?
He rolls me and pins me to the ground. Knowing he'll out-smart me, I shift back and close my eyes, silent tears streaming from them. I feel Alex shift back also, his hand wiping the tears from under my eyes. He climbs off me and pulls me towards him, wrapping his arms from around my waist. I hug him back, not letting anymore tears fall. I then pull away, scooting a distance away and crossing my legs.
"Are you going to tell me what's wrong now?" he asks, genuine concern in his voice and face. Alex is like my walking, talking, sarcastic, asshole of a diary. I tell him everything and he just listens, not saying a word until I am finished.
I nod and run my fingers through my hair, the movement catching his eye.
"Love the hair by the way."
I laugh and flip him the bird. "It wasn't an act of defiance, I swear! I just...didn't...oh, hell! I don't know why I did it! I was bored. Nothing happens in this pack and it's frustrating. And now I have to go to school! Just because I wanted a little color! I may love my wolf form, but color is my favorite part of being in my human form. Speaking of which, was my fur a different color? Did you see it before you shifted?"
His jaw was slack. Then he noticed me looking at him and replaced his shock with fury. "They're making you go to school?" Alex has this thing where when he's angry or extremely upset, his wolf eyes show up. Like now. But unlike the normal Alpha blood silver eye color, his eyes are a gold color.
He stands up and shifts. He has a beautiful wolf form. His gold-tinted silver fur travels the length of his body while the tip of his tail and his paws are a raven black. The gold tint is an Alpha blood trait, the black is from his hair, and the silver is a normal color. The normal colors are brown, silver and blonde, and black is a rare/normal color, more normal for the Beta.
My wolf is a gold-tinted brown with white-blonde ears and belly. But I have no idea if the white-blonde switched to purple or if it stayed.
Alex starts sprinting towards town, towards the pack neighborhood. Sighing, I shift and run after him, trying to catch him before he makes a scene.
Alex! Don't make a big deal about it!
Oh, I will. You are not going to school. That's final.
Alex! Alex, slow down and let's talk about this.
My request goes ignored and I mentally sigh. Taking a detour, I use all the energy in storage and try to run alongside him. Getting a good yard ahead of him, I jump at him. I land on his back just as we clear the forest and pin him to the ground. He tries to squirm out so I plop all my weight on him.
Grace. Get. Off. Now.
I shift back and get off him. Right when I think he'll shift back, he takes off running again. Screw it. Instead of chasing after him, I shift and trot to the council building. I know that's where he was going because he was furious at Alpha and Luna, but he would never yell at Mom, so he went to the next best thing.
The Alpha.
