The weekend went by quickly. I got in fights with Alpha and Luna constantly. "I shouldn't have to go to school," and, "It's your own goddamn fault!" So on and so forth. I also got in a fist fight with some dude who tried telling me that I'm a princess wanna-be. That's not even true. I hate being treating like royalty, and if people are too stupid to notice, then they get to go a round with me. No matter the gender. But I got grounded for that too. Four extra weeks.
Now, Monday morning, I'm finishing my toast and orange juice while on a 'jog'. Well, that's what it would look like to the onlooking human. I'm starting early, because going at a human pace feels really slow, even though going at this pace, I will probably still be early. I'm wearing a black T-shirt with dark wash jeans and combat boots with a hidden knife at the toe. Nobody but Alex knew I had it. But no one else needed to know. I am also carrying a messenger bag decorated with a wolf howling at the moon. So cliche.
Alex is jogging beside me, way more patient than I am. It actually looked like a normal jog where as mine looked like a jerky robot. He had a blue plaid shirt rolled to his elbows and a pair of blue jeans on with a black backpack slung over one shoulder. And black converse to top it off.
"You need to calm the hell down," Alex tells me. "I've never seen you this impatient, and that is saying something."
I glare at him and look away, trying to calm myself down. We'll be there in a few minutes, I tell myself. I started flowing through the jog, Alex still besides me to show myself that I'm still at a jog. In ten minutes flat, I can see the school. I grin at Alex and crouch down. "Race, no shifting, on three?" He nods. "Okay, ready? Three!" I start sprinting, leaving Alex behind a couple steps. That's all I need to know I'll win. I mean, Friday he had a head-start and I beat him by a long shot.
So when I reach the door and Alex is only twenty seconds behind me. Barely panting, I clap and give him a pat on the back. "Good job, you actually caught up a little. I'm proud." I say the last part while pretending to wipe a tear from my eye. He growls at me and goes to sit on the front stairs of the school.
I start laughing at him when I feel a tap on my shoulder. I slowly turn around to see a girl about our age. She has natural blonde hair, not fake. Her brown eyes make her look like a doe, innocent. Her jaw is dropped, looking from me to Alex. "Did you just beat him in a race?" she asks.
I look at Alex and see him captivated by the new girl. He whispers, too low for humans to hear, but I heard perfectly. "Mate." This happens with every were. Whenever they find their mate, they whisper it at a volume only the closest weres will hear. But the downside to this fact is that the were cannot hear themselves say it.
I turn back towards the girl and cock my head like a confused animal. "Uh, duh. He never beats me. Ever. It's kinda boring, actually. No competition," I tell her. "If you ever wanna try, just ask."
She shakes her head so hard that I'm afraid it will fall off. "If he can't beat you then I definitely can't. I couldn't run to save my life. Trust me," she states. "Are you guys new here?" I nod, knowing Alex won't recover until I do something about it. "Well, I could show you around, if you like?"
I see her looking between me and Alex, and turn to Alex. He is smiling at her and when I look back at her, she's smiling back. "That would be fantastic! Thank you, you are very kind to offer," I say in a sickly sweet manner. Her attention snaps back to me and I see her face tinge red.
"It's no problem at all. Do you have your schedules?" I nod and hand over our schedules. I kept Alex's because he loses everything. Even races.
She looks at the pieces of paper and then looks at Alex. "He has every class with me and you have first, third, fourth, and sixth hours with us. Your second, fifth, and seventh are different classes. I'll find someone who has those classes and see if they can show you. Would that be okay?" She looks at me and I nod.
"That would be fine, thanks. Oh, we're being completely rude," like I care, "I'm Grace and this is my twin brother, Alex."
She smiles. "I'm Kameron, it's nice to officially meet you." She laughs and shakes my hand and she's about to shake Alex's. Touching is the official sign of a mate, and having both siblings have human mates is about as terrifying as being human. Just as I'm about to interfere, the bell rings, making Kameron jump about three feet in the air.
"Shit. I've been here God knows how long and every time that damn bell scares the fuck out of me," she mumbles loud enough for a human to hear. She has almost as bad of a mouth as Alex. I adjust my bag to hear a laugh erupt from my mouth. I quickly slap my hand over it to see her laughing, too. "It's fine. I laugh at myself all the time. No worries."
I hear Alex laugh at me and I spin around and punch his arm. Hard. "Goddammit Grace! What the hell?" He rubs his are with a look of pain on his face. I just smirked at him and followed Kameron through the front doors of hell. Sorry I...no, I meant hell.
