Lock-in

In the following weeks Mark came further and further out of his shell. We would lay in the dark in our respected beds, and he would talk, I would listen, and vice versa. It started it off with me talking to a seemingly empty and dark room. I would talk about Ireland, my family, and the games I like to play. At the mention of games, it seemed to help a bit, got him to talk more.

He talked about his home in Ohio, wherever that is, and his dogs, or as he called them, his 'puppos'. He also mentioned a guy named Aaron, also known as  Yami. He seemed pretty fond of him, but any discussion of him didn't last long. He says that he moved, somewhere far, though he won't say where. Sometimes I can get him to say more, like the fact that he hasn't been able to get ahold of Aaron for awhile, and he was worried. At least he was opening up to me.

I started to sit with him during lunch, he was still quiet, but he readily added more to the conversation if he felt that it was necessary.  As the weeks progressed he even seemed comfortable around me, talking to me more without being prompted, he even cracked a few jokes once in awhile.  But it wasn't until the sophomore lock-in that things got, interesting.

Now, we all live at the same school and we are practically locked into this school all the time anyway, but they decided that they would have everyone spend the night inside the school for a night instead of the dorms.   So, on Friday morning we all headed over to the gym where we all stood in a big huddle in the center of the gym, waiting for instruction.  Mark was next to two guys, that I have been told by Felix are his good friends Bob and Wade.  I stood slightly off to one side of Mark and was a bit closer to Felix, Ken, and Cry.

"Ahem.  Can I have your attention please?"

The principle announced.  Everyone stopped their squirming and talking and looked over to where the principle stood on a small stage on the sidelines of the basketball court.

"Hello and welcome to the sophomore lock-in!  I hope you are as excited as I am to get this started?"

Everyone cheered, some voices seemed to be competing for who could be louder.

"Good.  Now, we've set this up in a sort of, carnival style setup."  People oohed and awed.

"With a game of hide and seek in the school later on in the night."  People seemed to get excited about that.  I shifted my weight.

"So, I hope you have fun, and good luck!"  he said as the entire gym went into an uproar.  People scattered in different directions, I didn't know what to do.  So when someone grabbed my arm and dragged me through the crowd, I didn't fight them.  I saw people laughing and running, I saw two dark haired guys with similar haircuts argue about where to go.  I saw two girls making their way through the crowd laughing about something, one having purple bangs.  Then the person dragging  me stopped and I finally took note of where we were.  We were in the cafeteria, people moving this way and that.  We stood in a relatively undisturbed corner by a water fountain.  I looked to who my capture was only to see that it was none other then the one and only Mark.

We looked at each other for a couple moments before he spoke first.

"So, what do you want to do first?"

I blinked at him.

"uh, I dunno.  What do you wanna do?"

"Well, it doesn't really matter to me, I'll do whatever."

"Same here."

After that we both just kind of stared at each other for a couple of long moments.  Ya know I've never really looked at his eyes before.  They are quite nice if I must admit.  But don't even get me started with his hair...

I was then being pulled out of my thoughts when someone grabbed me.

"There you are!  I've been looking everywhere for you!"

I looked at Mark apologetically as Felix dragged me over to a group consisting of him, Ken, Cry, Maritza, (at least I think that's her name, Felix told me once before.) And another girl.

"Jack, I want you to meet Maritza and Mary."

I gave a small, almost awkward wave.  "Hi."

They smiled and waved back.  "Hi Jack, we've heard quite a bit about you."  Mary said.

"Mhm."

"Heh, we don't need to talk about that."  Felix said.  He clamped a hand on my back.

"You know, for only being here a short while, you've managed to do some good stuff."

"Oh yeah?  Like what?"

"Well, I heard you give to charity, that's good.  And poor little Markimoo was in quite the unshakable funk before you showed up.  No one could get through to him really."

That made me red-faced a bit.  "Really, all you have to do is talk to the guy."

I spent the majority of the time after that with them, until it got to the hide and seek portion.  We decided to split up, thinking that would be the best strategy.  Felix, as class president, was elected to seek first.  He had to count to 100, so while he did that we all scattered.  I ran through the hallways, trying to find a good place to hide.  That's when I noticed a door that was slightly ajar, so I took the opportunity and decided to hide in there.  But as soon as I was all the way and shut the door, I realized that someone else was already in here.

"Uh, Jack?"  It was Mark.  Go figure,  but hey, can't be that bad right?

"Uh, right sorry, you wouldn't mind if I uh, stayed here, would you?"

"No not at all.  Go ahead, lets just uh, readjust."

It was really dark, like really dark.  I couldn't see anything.  I could only feel Mark under me.

"Here, if we move this here..."  He grabbed my upper thigh in an attempt to move me to a ore comfortable position.  So now instead of me standing over him or awkwardly trying to kneel in front of him, I was awkwardly sitting in his lap.  Great.  Well, actually its not that bad.

"So, how are you?"  I asked.

"Shh!  They're coming."  He places his hand over my mouth.  I'm tempted to lick it so he would remove it.  But I'm in high school now so I don't think I can do that anymore.

After the footsteps passed, Mark slowly removed his hand.  He wasn't quite sure where to put it, so it rested uncomfortably for Mark on my shoulder.

We sat like this for about an hour.  An hour!  And we weren't even that last ones found.  Joey and Shane were, they hid on a metal beam on the ceiling of the gym (don't even ask me how they got up there because personally, I don't want to know).

So after that experience we headed to our homerooms were we would spend the night.  Unfortunately Felix and I didn't share the same homeroom, but lucky for me. me and Mark do.  So I unrolled my sleeping bag and lie down next to Mark and fall asleep to the comfort that is Mark's body heat.

Ok, Finally done.  Hey, guess who's writing another  chapter on a hotel computer? Meeeeeeee.  That's right my lovelies I'm out of town again, which for some reason correlates with more chapters but who knows.  Ok bye lovelies - Rebecca
