Just like strings the fingers are also assigned something to help diagram and or tell where your fingers are placed on the guitar but instead of letters they are numbers.
Your index or pointer finger will be your 1st finger
Middle finger will now be the 2nd finger
The ring finger is your 3rd finger
And the pinky is 4th
