Two weeks prior...
"Are you sure, Annie?" I leaned towards her and took her hand, " They are testing them, they could be harmful."

"You say that about everything, Jonathan," she pulled her hand from mine and stood up from the couch, beginning to pace, "They're giving me $5000 to try it."

Thats a lot of money. Why are they offering so much? I don't trust this.

"We don't need that money, we have enough," I knew that argument was futile, nothing was ever enough with Annie. It was all or nothing.

"Maybe, but that doesn't mean we can't get more," she rolled her eyes and turned to me.

"But we shouldn't risk our own health for that," I stood up and moved towards her, "These are the only bodies we have, we need to look after them."

She sighed, "What about your parents? They need the money."

"They may need it but that doesn't mean they want it, you know they don't care about money."

"Yeah..." she looked away and I knew that wasn't it.

"You want them to like you," I said in realisation.

I knew I was right when her body went stiff and she glanced up at me.

"Money won't buy their love, you know that."

"I do. Why? Why don't they like me Jonathan?" She said desperately.

"I don't know," I did know, I didn't want to tell her.

She deflated.

I sighed and pulled her against my chest, "Look, Annie, I love you. I don't care how much money we have. It doesn't matter, as long as we are happy and safe."

She sighed into my chest and wrapped her arms around me.

"I know," she looked up at me and smiled, "How was work?"

I worked at the bookstore on the corner of the Main Street. It was old and dusty but I loved it.

"Work was great, as usual," I grinned at her and kissed her forehead, "there was this one customer who came in, he stunk really bad. I had to spray air freshener when he left."

She laughed and shook her head, "Some people don't know what deodorant is."

I ran my fingers along her shoulder and asked, "How was work for you?"

Resting her chin on my chest she looked up at me, "It was interesting to say the least. I like it better than my last job and it allows me to study for university too."

"I think it's great that they're doing that." I agreed.

I sighed and pulled away, "What do you feel like for dinner?"

I walk over to the white ornate fire place, the carvings along the side show intricate vines and roses, designed by Annie.
