If I had a dollar for every time I've sprinted in Magnum Terram, I'd be pretty rich. It seems like every other minute we're running from something. My feet pound hard on the ground, one foot in front of the other. Quinn and Marley by my sides. It's almost completely dark.
We run in the direction of the cavern, the way I had just come from. I counted the lights in the wall as I had walked. I was 17 lights from the cavern. I begin to count down as we pass each one. 17.
One foot at a time trying not to die. I look over and Marley and Quinn look exhausted but they aren't giving up. 16.
"Don't freakin trip!" I yell. Every time we are running someone always seems to trip and pays the consequence for it. So I'm not going to let that happen this time. 15. 14. 13. 12.
We're getting closer to the cavern. And once we get there, we can just jump and hide inside of it. Just 11 lights to go and we'll be there.
The vibrations of the tracks under our feet continue to get stronger and stronger. If Noose is on this train, then I'll doubt he'll be as nice as he was when he caught me yesterday. 10. 9. 8. 7. 6.
My head still pounds with a slight ache. But it wasn't as bad as it was yesterday. The Vitam I ate must have helped the concussion I had. 5.
My lungs sting and they beg for more air. I breath deep breaths and sweat in large amounts. 4.
The cavern entrance is just right ahead. But the train is so close that whoever is driving might be able to see us now. 3.
Is it too late? Is one of us going to end up like Charles and Albert? We are so close to safety yet so close to the danger. 2.
I can see the hole in the tunnel that leads into the cavern. I quickly tell Marley and Quinn what we are going to do. The train is so close now that I can feel it's enormous power. 1.
We dodge into the cavern and keep running. But I notice something. The buzz of the train seems to be shaking the hole cavern, including the ceiling. I look up and see a giant boulder falling.
"Watch out!" I yell as I spread out both my arms like an eagle does its wings and I take both Marley and Quinn to the ground. We slide and roll onto the hard stone ground. And the giant boulder collided into the floor right where we were a couple seconds ago.
We lay on the ground bewildered that we have yet again escaped death. But it gets worse. A loud screeching sound spreads throughout the tunnel. The train is braking. And you can tell it comes to a stop.
"Shit!" I say. "We need to hide. Now!" I stand up quickly and frantically look around.
There's a little crevice in the wall. It's one of the only places we can hide.
"We could take him!" Quinn says.
"No! Who knows what he has under his sleeve. Let's just go hide in that crevice in the wall and hope he doesn't find us." I say.
We rapidly walk to the crevice and slip inside. Right when we get in place the sound of loud footsteps fills the cavern.
We hold our breath as the footsteps get closer and closer. I'm getting claustrophobic. There's barely any space in this small crevice.
The person is so close I can hear them breathing. We being super quiet but our loud beating hearts might just give us away.
