Chapter 24
Mia's POV
There was no mistaking that it was Zayn. His perfectly shaved face made him look at least five years younger. He was dressed in a white tee with a denim vest and a pair of fitting black jeans with black combat boots. The same ones he wore on that painful night.
I wasn't sure if he recognized me since I unknowingly avoided his gaze once I realized it was the guy who broke my heart about six months ago.
"I wouldn't miss it for the world Mark," Zayn said as he walked up onto the stage.
My heart raced with each step he took. I was sure that I would never run into him again.
What were the chances that he would be the person I was protecting? Was some superpower toying with my life, making us meet like this on purpose, as if it was fate?
I continued looking at the crowd, until I heard Mark said my name.
"Mia?"
I hadn't realized that I had zoned out of reality for a second.
"Yes?"
"This is Zayn Javadd Malik. He's the one you'll be spending a lot of time with for the next couple months." Mark waves over to Zayn, who was shaking hands with George, to come over.
There were no words to describe how nervous I was as he made his way across the stage to me. When all I saw was his smile, I felt a number of emotions rush over me.
Did he really not remember me?
Zayn reached his hand out for a handshake, "Nice to meet you, Mia. Let's work hard together."
Nice to meet me? Work hard together?
"Thank you, Mr. Malik," I replied as my hand grasped his in a firm handshake.
His warm hands contrasted with my cold ones and I almost flinched at the all too familiar touch.
I didn't expect him to be so .. non chalant. After releasing my hand, he returned his hand back into his pocket.
"Please call me Zayn."
Why was he being so kind? I was positive that once he recognized it was me, he was going to call me out for bothering him - for running into his life again when he strictly ordered me not to.
After the introductions, everyone dispersed from the party. All that we had left to do was sign the papers so George and I were escorted to Mark's office with the company of the manager. I was walking in between the mighty George whose big arms kept running into mine and the stout manager.
Was it too late to back out now? I mean, my signature was not on the papers yet. They would understand, right?
Once we settled ourselves in the room, there were two papers perfectly placed on the table, one for me and one for George.
"All you need to do is read the contract and sign at the bottom. Date it. And you're both all set," the manager explained.
The conditions were pretty much a summary of what was stated in the interview. George was assigned to night and I to day. Then we would shift once a week passed.
I looked at George who already finished signing his name on the bottom line while I hadn't even touched my pen.
I thought back to what Ty told me, "Don't let others keep you from what you want."
He was right. I shouldn't let Zayn stop me from doing what I wanted. I needed a job and once the months that I had to be here were up, I would return back to London. Besides, the pay was good.
