Chapter 31

Mia's POV

As soon as I called Tyler, he picked up on the second ring.

"Mia! Why haven't you been picking up my calls? Where the hell are you? Are you hurt?"

He was shouting so loud, I had to pull the phone away from my ear.

"I'm fine, Ty. Nothing to worry about," I told him. "Just lost my phone, that's all."

"You lost your phone?" He was definitely suspicious.

"Yes, it was on silent and I forgot where I placed it."

"Well, that's exactly why you should never leave your phone in silent."

"I know, I know. I'm sorry," I chuckled.

"Don't you be chuckling at me, young lady."

"Sorry. It's just. It feels weird. Nobody ever calls me except you or Winnie."

"Winnie?" I'd never told him about her.

"She's my older sister."

"Oh right. Must have slipped my mind."

When I sat myself down on the back porch, the cool refreshing air appeased my lightheadedness. I still felt a little sick and nauseous.

"So who're you working for over there?" He asked.

I still haven't told him about Zayn's identity. I think he would demand that I quit and return home, just like Zayn had.

"No one special. Just some popstar," I vaguely explained.

"Just some popstar, huh."

"Yeah," I was starting to sense he knew who he was but he gave up on interrogating me when he said he had to go to work.

George came out from behind the doors. He was still in his black and white suit.

"I'm sorry that you had to see that, George," He walked to the other side, seating himself on the chair.

"It's alright. It's none of my business."

"How's Laura? Have you been in contact with her?" He kept silent which worried me. Did he lie about forgiving her just to calm my nerves? "George, please tell me."

"The one you should worry about right now is yourself," he advised.

"You sound like Za--" I stopped myself. "I mean --"

Nope. Can't recover. George didn't mind when he decided to explain.

"Zayn has apologized to her, but once management found out, they didn't want to settle."

"I have to find her," I stood on my feet so fast that I got lightheaded again.

"Mia, hold on. I haven't finished." George's finger pointed the white patio chair and I sat down. "Zayn dropped the case. He didn't want to sue. So .. after a long, long talk, they finally gave in."

I sighed in relief. I should have never doubted him. I should have trusted him. He had to know that I was sorry and thankful and that I didn't mean to walk out on him.

"I think you should head home, Mia." A voice from behind me spoke. I rose up slowly realizing it was none other than Zayn. His face was now shaven, completely. This look was rare on him and I couldn't decide which look suited him better.

"Thank you. For forgiving Laura. I'm very grateful," I ignored him.

"It's not like you're her."
