The music was loud and there were people everywhere. Jeff went to talk to some friends of his while I hung out with Molly. Ryder was hanging around with us mostly but left to check on how everything was going.

“Did I make it obvious?” Molly asked sipping her beer as Ryder walked away.

“Make what obvious?” I asked studying her as she watched Ryder. Her eyes flashed with want and then pain and guilt.

She sighed looking at me, “So that's a no?”

“That you like him? No you didn't make it obvious at all.”

She glared, “I can't tell if that was sarcastic or not?”

I laughed, “No. I was being serious, I only knew because I was watching you two closely the last few days.”

“Why?” She asked turning bright red.

“Molly, really? You two are so cute together.” I told her. I looked up and saw Ryder looking over at us or more like Molly. He saw me and winked before turning back to talk to his friends.

“Yeah but he doesn't like me like that, we're best friends.”

I smirked rolling my eyes, “He likes you, just go up and make the first move.”

“Hey, talking about me are we?” Ryder asked popping up next to us.

“N-no.” Molly laughed nervously, “Why would you t-think that?”

He shrugged, “Just a guess.” I rolled my eyes, “So you like the party so far?”
“Oh yeah, it's... just the best.” I told him sarcastically.

“Now no need to diss it just started.”

I laughed and nodded, looking away. “There you are, I've been looking everywhere for you..” Jeff whispered in my ear, wrapping his arms around me.

“I've been standing here the whole time.” I laughed.

There was a shift in the room and a slight breeze, my heart started off on a high speed chase and I blushed bright red. What was going on? I looked up and my heart slowed and my stomach dropped. In the door way was Avery and hanging on his arm was a pretty blond. He smiled and they made their way to us.

He looked perfect, one hand in his jean pocket and the other inter twined with the girls. A stab to the heart. His dark hair looked soft and I wanted to run my fingers through it, but it looked like she already did.

“Hey guys, this is Kendra.” Avery said gesturing to the girl, she gave a small wave and a slight smile. Jeff's grip tightened on me, “Having a nice time?” He asked me.

I nodded I was speechless, what was I suppose to say?

“I'll go get us beers.” Avery told Kendra looking at me before he left.

“You want something?” Jeff asked. I shook my head. “I'm going to get something.” He told me letting me go walking away.

“So, you're with Jeff?” Kendra asked in a sweet voice.

“Yeah.” I nodded suddenly nervous.

“That's good, he deserves to be happy.” She laughed quietly looking around. She looked like she was going to cry.

“Are you okay?” I asked.

“Yeah, yeah. No I'm fine don't worry about me, I, uh, gotta go find Avery.” she nodded, but you could tell she was holding back tears.

“Are you sure?”

“Yeah I'm fine really.” she told me. I nodded as she walked away.

“What was up with her?” I asked Molly and Ryder who looked awkwardly around. “guys? Molly?”

“Jeff and her used to be friends.” She shrugged.

“That's it? Just friends?”

“Yeah, as far as anyone knows, they were inseparable when they were little. Everyone thought they were together but they kept denying it, she moved a few years ago though. He was really upset, I'm mean who wouldn't be, they were best friends...”

“Oh.” was all I said. How was I suppose to compete with an old friend who, by the way she acted just now, was completely in love with him, my boyfriend.
