Sean's POV
I woke up to sunlight hitting my face. Mornings have always been the time I love. Not because its a new day, new hope shit, but because its time for me to again stay away from a place people call "home".I took a cold shower and wore a crisp gray shirt paired with black trousers and black shoes. I hung my coat below on my hand and descended downstairs for breakfast.
I was greeted with a smile by Alex, my son, and with a grumpy face by Rachel, my wife. I didn't care anymore, because I was used to it, and also because it hardly affected me. I tousled Alex's hair with my hand and he grinned. I smiled, genuinely.
"Sean, there's a community party tomorrow and I need to go shopping" Rachel said. She always opened her mouth for to either inform about a party or shopping, and surprisingly, she opened her mouth for both today. I shrugged in response. "You have to come with me for shopping" she blankly added giving me a cold stare. I couldn't help but laugh. So I laughed a fake laugh adding, "Please go and see a doctor."
She blankly said, "I asked you one simple thing..." "And I gave you my answer in the best possible way" I said cutting her mid sentence. "Sean, it is a community party, we have to look perfect" her voice softened as she said this. This triggered me and I involuntarily raised my voice saying "Do hell with your community parties Rachel. I don't want to live a pretentious life. Did you get that straight in your head?"
She chuckled a bitter laugh, and I left the place without waiting for anything further, because waiting would've led to a serious quarrel, and honestly, I am fed up of quarrels.
I sat in my Mercedes and asked the driver to head to the office. As we passed the streets, I only thought about what happened today. This wasn't anything new, it happened almost everyday of I was home.
I always worried about Alex. He is learning everything that's going on at home. He witnessed our fights, he witnessed my monstrous side, he witnessed his mom crying, he witnessed the incidents that have broken the family. This must have had a bad impact on him. 5 years of marriage and nothing's changed. Its now I realise we both need to move on from this. I couldn't let Alex grow up in a family that has regular quarrels. It is better for the both of us to get separated, and lead our lives.
I looked out of the window.
I found myself in a familiar area. Whenever I was there I had a nostalgic feeling. That feeling made me uncomfortable, it made me feel weak, helpless. It made me feel like a major chunk of my life is misplaced. But how?
I was brought out of my thoughts by the car honk signalling we reached the office.
