"mom said you used your credit card?"upon hearing those words, jungkook froze, stopped in whatever he was doing, which was cleaning one of the tables in the cafe he works at. his eyes dilated, mouth slightly ajar as he turn to lock eyes with namjoon whom is gazing at him curiously.
the older stared at him expectantly. namjoon knew ever since that fatal night, jungkook cut off all possible connections with their parents, more specifically their father. he never dared to use the credit card his step mother has offered him in order for him to survive in times of need.
but jungkook never liked depending on people. for others it was a blessing, but to him it was shameful. sure his step mom as kind and all, but the gesture just gave him a whole other meaning. he felt insulted. like it was her saying he couldn't make it on his own at all.
to say jungkook was deeply ashamed and disgusted of himself when namjoon forced the idea of asking their parents to pay for his education to lessen his expenses, was a total understatement. he felt filthy. he never liked being in debt to anybody, moreover his parents. it was hard, but jungkook is still in his second year in college.
he had to.
"i didn't." he tells him.
"— but she said she checked your account last week and found out it was activated just recently." namjoon responds, his face scrunching in confusion as he lifts a brow.
"i tried opening it." he started, looking away as he bends slightly to hover above the glass table, his hands tracing circular patterns as he wiped any excess dirt off. "— but it didn't quite feel right." he adds.
his back was turned to namjoon as he jumps from table to table, wiping it clean as fast as he can to be able to move on to his third job for today. it's already way past six and he sure as hell jimin is worried sick by now.
"...and as to what the reasons might be?" he hears his bother questions from behind, his voice low and full of curiosity. "if you don't mind me asking."
"jimin needed new clothes."
he didn't even need to look back to see the amusement and shock plastered in the older's features. it was in the way the silence slowly crawled and enveloped them both, that jungkook knew.
he rolled his eyes. "he was using my clothes. you know how much i hate sharing things." he tells him, a small glare in his eyes as he turns to glance at him. "so fucking stop whatever you're thinking, hyung." he follows after.
namjoon chuckled, "alright, alright." he hears him say. "— but if you didn't use the card, how'd you buy him things?" he asks, just as jungkook sighs in relief as he came to finally finish cleaning.
he turns to face namjoon fully, shrugging as he collected his cleaning tools to place in the back room. "i decided to use some of my savings for chelsea." he sighs, earning a surprised look from his brother.
"chelsea?" namjoon gasped. "— but you were saving to buy that guitar for two years now." he says, brows furrowed as he referred to the expensive guitar that jungkook has been desiring for years now.
"don't worry, i didn't use that much." he assures him, a grin on his lips as he pushes the door to the back room open, namjoon following behind. "besides, i'm a hardworker. i could just easily get the money back."
"yeah, right." namjoon rolls his eyes, earning a shrug from jungkook as he walks to grab his clothes before entering inside a cubicle before emerging back with his casual clothes on.
"well you told me to take good care of him, didn't you?" jungkook raised a brow, earning a sigh from his step brother.
"c'mon, hurry up. i'll drive you to your next job." namjoon offers, earning a tired smile to appear in jungkook's lips, collecting his things before trailing behind the older.
no matter how shitty life just is, jungkook will always respect namjoon more than he deserved. for all the years he spent away from home, the older had always been by his side, guiding and simply keeping him company in times of loneliness. namjoon is a great brother and jungkook will forever be grateful for that. and the fact they aren't even blood related just warms his heart with such delight.
"thank you, hyung." jungkook smiles, leaning back on his chair as he watches every person or building they pass by.
and even through the older's silence, jungkook knew that namjoon heard him and felt the many words laced in his words. he could only smile, glad that even through the storm, he's lucky to have people who cares about him genuinely.
when they arrived at the small convenience store, jungkook bid his farewells before rushing his way inside. and as soon as he stepped foot inside, his eyes immediately found his best friend who's busy stacking new supplies in the far end corner.
he smirked, making his way to the brunette before smacking him square in the head, earning a yelp to escape from the latter's lips. "fucking hell, jungkook." taehyung hissed, glaring at him in utmost rage.
"good evening to you too," he smiles, flashing him his bunny teeth, only to receive an eye roll from taehyung before he waved him off, turning to continue stacking the supplies on the shelves.
the whole duration of this shift, taehyung kept him company. being the best friends that they are, made fun of everything their eyes laid on, with taehyung stealing a couple packs of condom as they sat by the counter, filling the small store with their laughs and giggles.
they talked aimlessly until they momo came into view, her petite figure walking pass them as she flashes them a small smile before entering the back room, followed by taehyung's phone blaring as it displays yoongi's contact name, something about hoseok craving for his presence. but knowing yoongi, he may just be horny as hell and wants to perform a threesome since hoseok's finally part of the picture.
jungkook waved taehyung goodbye, walking the other way and into a particular neighbourhood, an exhausted grin on his lips as a certain house finally came to his line of vision, reaching a hand to knock.
he barely even made it to to knocks when the door bursted open, revealing a tear stained jimin. "jimin?" he cupped his cheeks, worried for his hybrid. "why are you crying? did something happen?"
just then, bambam came into view, his tears droopy against his head as he pouted. "he thought you abandoned him." he hears him say, his eyes immediately dilating as he pulls jimin to his chest. "he cried when the clock ticked eight and you're still nowhere to be found." bambam adds, sympathising with his best friend.
"oh, jimin." jungkook sighs when jimin sobbed against his chest, the hybrid's arms wrapped tight on waist like he never intends of letting go any time soon. "shh, i'm here now. i'm sorry, baby." he kisses his forehead.
"thanks dabdab," jungkook flashed bambam a small smile of gratitude. "please send yugyeom my thanks as well. thank you for taking care of my jimin." he says before turning to walk away with jimin wrapped on his side like a koala.
"it's bambam," he faintly hears from behind, smirking as he pulls jimin even closer, mentally laughing as he got fabfab's name wrong for like hundredth time today.
