Run

I'd been here a week.
A solid week and I'd barely done anything.
I'd made friends with a woman a few doors down from me; her name was Carol.
She had given me a few extra clothes and baked me some 'welcome cookies'.
She seemed a basic mother hen type, but from the stories that always seemed to travel around the community, she was a secret badass, and that pleased me.

"Hey Quinn, c'mere." Carol smiled her sweet smile from a her front yard.
I smiled back and made my way over.
"Some of the group are going on a run today, would you wanna go?" She asked.
"Which ones?" I pressed.
"Daryl, Michonne and Rosita." She replied.
I nodded my head. "Could be fun."
"Great." Carol grinned, getting up. "Let's go to the gate then, they're just prepping to leave."

Once at the gate, we saw Daryl, Michonne, Rosita, Tara, Carl and Rick loading the cars with a few guns and talking amongst themselves.
"Hey guys, I got you a fourth. Quinn wants to come with you on your run." Carol called out, grabbing everyone's attention.
I noticed Rick smile to me, making me smile back as he approached me.
"You sure about this? You've only just got here." He stated.
"I know. I'll be back, don't worry." I chuckled. "I think it'll be good for me. It'll give me a chance to actually do something for this community instead of just sitting around doing nothing, mulling over my thoughts."
Rick looked down and nodded.
"Yeah that's a good idea. And we'd really appreciate the extra help." He smiled again. "Well, I'll get Carl to go get the AK-103 from the armoury. Will that be okay for you?"
I nodded.
"Alright then."
He walked back over to Carl, asking him to do said task.
Carl then glanced at me with a small smile and jogged off.
"You sure you don't wanna break before you go back out there?" Daryl asked, coming over to me.
"It'll give me something to do. Rick's basically just asked the exact same thing." I chuckled.
"We're worried about you. Don't want you doin' anything stupid because you made the wrong call." He said.
"I won't. Promise." I winked, cheekily, making Daryl do this almost awkward huffed chuckle he seems to do a lot.
"C'mon then. We gotta get goin' as soon as Carl's back with your gun." He said, ushering me over to the car where Michonne and Rosita were standing.

Carl got back and the gun was loaded into the car and we were good to go.
We went to what appeared to be the biggest food bank I'd ever seen.
Getting the guns out of the back of the car, we scoped the place out.
There appeared to be a few Corpses in the building, but not too many to handle.
"Let's go." Daryl muttered.
We strolled up to the main entrance and tried the door.

Locked.

"A'right, let's try round the back. Failin' that, we're gunna need to use some bullets to bust the door open." Daryl stated.
"You guys go round the back, me and Quinn'll try and get the front door open." Michonne suggested.
Daryl and Rosita nodded, moving to the back of the place.
"What sort of lock is it?" I asked.
"Just a normal Yale by the looks of it. Why?" Michonne asked.
I smirked at myself and pulled a lock-picking kit out of my back pocket.
"Where the hell did you get that?" Michonne asked.
I knelt in front of the door and worked my magic.
"I had a friend who used to get himself into a lot of trouble. He was with me and my brother before he got bit. So I took his lock-picking stuff. Always came in handy with stuff like this." I replied.
"Damn right." She chuckled in slight disbelief.
The lock clicked and in we were.
"Et voila!" I giggled.
"We'd gotta keep you." Michonne chuckled, shaking her head as she walked in.
We grabbed the attention of the Corpses and I mentally prepared myself as they came closer.
I pulled out my Colt and Bowie knife, moving towards the closest one.
I plunged my knife into it's head and moved onto the next one just as Daryl and Rosita came through the back.
"How'd you guys get in?" Daryl asked, reloading his already-fired crossbow.
"Quinn had a surprise lock-picking kit in her back pocket." Michonne grunted, pulling her sword through one of the Corpses.
There were five to go and they were easily taken out due to the sheer size of the place and the limited supply of Corpses.
"Right. Grab all you can guys, we've got a lot of mouths to feed." Michonne said, almost sighing the last part.
I felt like there was some meaning behind that, but I couldn't quite work it out.

We'd entirely filled the car. The trunk was full, the back seats were full, the footwells behind the front seats were full.
The packs on Daryl's bike was also full and so was his backpack.
"Looks like you're comin' with me, Jones." Daryl said, handing me his backpack.
I pulled it onto my back, climbing on his bike with him.
"Well I wasn't planning on  walking." I chuckled.
We set off back home, no trouble, nothing. It'd been the perfect turn-out.
