It was a spring day and a little white wolf pup with green eyes named Winter, from Storm pack, had wandered away from her mother and the rest of the pack.
Winter walked around, exploring the forest around her.
Then a couger came, frightening the little wolf. For the wolf pups in her clan had learned not to trust other animals, especially cougers.
" Hi little wolf,"said the couger, " My name Thunder."
Winter backed away from the couger.
     " It's okay ," the couger said gently," I won't hurt you."
" I'm scared of cougers," the Winter said nervously.
" I'm not going to hurt you," said the couger, " What's your name?"
" Winter," she said shyly.
" Where is your pack," asked the couger.
" I don't know," said Winter, realizing she was lost.
" I can help you find them if you want," the couger answered.
" Okay," said Winter, " My pack is Storm pack,"
They searched until it was too dark to see.
" It's too dark to keep looking and we should get some sleep," said the wolf, " Why don't you come back with me to my house," asked the couger.
" But, you're a couger. Mom said cougers are mean," said Winter.
" I'm not mean. If you come with me, I can help you search for your pack in the morning," said the couger.
" Okay, " said Winter.
They went to the cougers house and went to sleep.
They woke up early the next morning.
" Can we go look for my pack?" asked Winter.
" Yes, we should start right away,"said Thunder.
They walked through the forest, searching for Winter's pack.
" Mr. Couger, do you know where we are?" asked Winter.
" Please, call me Thunder. And yes, I do. I know this forest very well" replied the couger.
Suddenly they could smell smoke and see fire up ahead.
" Run, there's a forest fire!" yelled Thunder.
Winter ran as fast as she could until she couldn't see the fire anymore and was on the other side of the forest, but she couldn't see Thunder anywhere.
He probably just went a different way, thought Winter as she walked around a tree He can't be that far away.
