(Name) was shaking. Her hands and feet could barely keep still. The news that the doctor had given her just two minutes ago was life changing. Literally. Her doctor had imparted the knowledge that she had a rare and fatal disease that left her with only one week to live. How was she going to tell her parents? More importantly how was she going to tell Klaus?

Klaus had been (name)'s best friend ever since he'd had to tutor her when she needed help with English one year. They'd bonded fast and soon you'd hardly ever see one without the other.

He'd helped her through some of the hard times of her life, and she was also pretty sure that he owed her $1 for some lollies that he'd bought while on a trip to the seaside when she was 8. If nothing else came of this trip then she could at least ask him for the money back.

As she reached the front door of the Baudelaire family mansion she flung her bike onto the marble front steps and rapped the door with her knuckles. There was a creak and the door opened a crack. A green eye framed by tortoiseshell glasses peered out.

"May I come in?"

"Of course"

There was a click, and the door was opened. She stepped into the safety of the Baudelaire mansion. (Name) doubted she'd ever get used to the view of the inside of their house, and now she supposed she'd never have to.

"How was the doctors?"

"Oh yeah, that's what I've come to talk to you about."

"Do you want to tell me?"

"If I'm frank, I'd rather not say it her as it's kind of a personal matter, maybe upstairs in your room."

"If you want"

He leads me up the red velvet lined staircase to a hallway with three rooms. Opening the door to the middle one he stepped inside and beckoned for (Name) to follow.

Klaus's room was lined with bookshelves. There was a desk in one corner and a bed in the centre of the room. He walked over to his bed and sat down.

"Now (Name) what were you going to tell me?"

(Name) breathes in and sits down on his bed.

"I-I-I've only got a week to live. My doctor said that I have a rare and deadly disease that is always fatal."

Klaus opens his mouth.

"No, I know what you're going to say, there's nothing that can be done about it."

"I'm sorry (name), but do you know what? I'll never leave your side"

(Name) smiles. Then rolls over, closes her eyes and goes to sleep.
