It seems things are going my way. Just my luck that I happened to stumble on a- very personal moment, I called it, between my sworn nemesis and a certain feisty young lady in my very own garden.

"Well, well well!" I exclaim, waltzing out of the shadows. They both immediately pulled away. I grinned. Was revenge always this fun?
I suppose so.
I'm so smart, aren't I?

"What do we have here? A romance between two people with entirely opposite opinions and personalities! It would make a good novel. Perhaps I could write it: "Storm and Silence ", that's what I'll call it. Dont you think?" Actually, I could make a buttload of money out of that novel! I'm a blooming genius! Of course!

I see Miss Linton grit her teeth and curtsy. "Good Evening, your Lordship. Forgive me. I was not aware you had a -uh- relationship with Mr Ambrose," she said graciously lacing venom into her voice. Did she thinks it was funny? Was she implying that the relationship was between I and my rival?

"I am not a fan of romance novels, however, I do find your novel quite interesting. What would you call the first chapter, your Lordship? "The Lord and the Mister" sounds like quite a good title," she continued her face displaying an extremely innocent emotion.

Did she think that funny? I'd be long dead before I even took a liking towards Ambrose!
"Do not play games with me Miss Linton- unless you want to live to your next birthday, that is," I retort.

She nods graciously. "Forgive me then, your Lordship. I bid you farewell,"
Throughout all this Ambrose had been glaring at me. Quite coldly, but you can't expect much of a welcome from him, can you?

"Now, now Miss Linton. Where do you think you're going?" She wasn't going to be leaving, not now.
She smiles sweetly.
"Back to the ballroom. I'll leave you gentlemen to your business,"
"You, are not going anywhere."

She froze in her tracks. Ha! That'll show her not to mess with us! Bam!
Yes, yes. Now shut up.
"We wouldn't want anything to slip now would we? Mr Ambrose, financial business magnate having a female secretary? How scandalous! A juicy story indeed, when they discover quite a... Unprofessional relationship too? What would happen if that got in the papers?" I continued. Ambrose stiffened even more.

"What do you want?" She spits.
"Isn't someone on fire! Well, Miss- Mr Linton, if I may, why dont you ask your boss? He knows the answer very, very well,"
She glares at me. And her eyes flash back to Ambrose. How long do you think they'll take? No idea.

"You want the file."
Ah. Finally! "Yes! Well deduced, Ambrose. The file that was supposed to be mine," He glared icily. Again. I am getting quite tired of receiving glares, whether icy or fiery.
"You will not get it,"

A good word to describe the situation right now is horrific. Not only for me.
I decided better than to try persuade Lord Dalgliesh not to fuss over that irrigation ditch and stay quiet.

I have no idea how that man remains smiling while Mr Ambrose is glaring at him. Quite coldly too. I don't blame him though. Lord Dalgliesh seems extremely easy to dislike.

"In that case, why not we return to the ballroom?" he asks. Ballroom! He's just discovered something that could - I mean, would ruin his sworn enemy's reputation and he wants to go back to the ballroom?
I'm sure, him being the snake of a lord that he is, that he has some sort of wicked plan! You need to leave. Pronto! Before anything bad happens.

Right. And how, pray tell, will I leave this ball without the chief commander of hell, Dear Aunt Brank noticing?
..uh...
