I Can Love You More Than This (One Direction Fan Fiction)

Chapter 6

Niall's POV

It's been an hour since the incident with Zayn happened. I was so mad at him. How could he say those words to Kate? 

I've only known Kate for three weeks but she was like a sister to me. The image of her face when she heard Zayn's words kept replaying in my head.

There has to be something wrong because the Zayn I knew could never do that to anyone especially Kate. I knew that he really liked her. The look on his face whenever he saw Kate made him look like a blind man finally being able to see for the first time.

Liam, Louis and I were sitting on the couch while Harry just kept pacing back on forth.

I could feel the tension in the room. We were still really shocked from what happened.

The sound of Harry's phone ringing broke the silence.

He answered the phone. An expression of worry and fear crosses his face.

He drops his phone and starts running out of the room.

I just sat there, bewildered from what had just happened. Liam picks up Harry's phone and talks to the person on the other end of the line.

"Hello. Who is this?" he asks.

Liam stays silent for a while and the same expression on Harry's face appears on his.

"Okay. We'll be there as soon as we can." he ends the call and turns to face us.

"Guys, it's about Kate. She got into an accident." he tried to say as clearly as possible.

I could see his eyes start to well up and mine seemed to do the same.

"A truck hit the taxi that she and her sister were on."

As soon as he said those words, I stood up

"We should go to see her now."

On our way to the hospital, I kept saying silent prayers hoping that she would be fine.

HARRY'S POV

When I arrive at the hospital, I start running. Audrey had told me the number of Kate's room.

I stopped when I finally found it. As I slide the door open, my heart drops when I see Kate on the bed. There were cuts and bruises all over her body. It was agonizing to see her like that. If I stopped her from leaving, this wounldn't have happened. I shouldn't have let her go.

Tears were slowly starting to fill my eyes but a voice interrupted me

"Excuse me, May I help you?" a woman said. I turned to face Kate's mom.

Recognition spreads across her face when she sees me.

"Oh. Harry, It's you."

I could tell that she'd been crying because her eyes were already red and puffy. She looked like a wreck. I could see the pain in her eyes.

"I'm sorry about what happened to Kate and Kris." I mumbled.

It was hard to talk about Kate. knowing that she was lying motionless on the hospital bed.

"It's okay. I just hope that they'll both be okay." her voice cracked a bit.

I could see how much she cared about Kate and Kris. I watch as tears start to appear in her eyes.

I couldn't help but think how unfair life was. Why did this have to happen to kate? Especially after what she had been through with Zayn.

If only she had chosen me, I would do everything I could to make her happy and I would never hurt her.

I hear the door slide open and the doctor comes in.

"Mrs. Adams?" he walked towards Kate's mom with a serious look on his face.

I was nervous about what he was gonna say and I could feel my heart pounding harder as he inched closer to me and Kate's mom.

"I'm Dr. Jacobs and I'm glad to say that Kate will be fine. She has suffered a stress fracture on her ankle and she will need a lot of rest. It will take about six to ten weeks for her to fully recover. Aside from that, there are no other complications. She will regain her conciousness soon but for now, she needs to sleep."

I breathe a sigh of relief when I heard the results. Mrs. Adams' face lights up with the good news.

"How about Kris? Will she be okay too?" she asks expectantly.

Dr. Jacobs just stood there with a blank expression on his face. The tension in the room grows as every second of silence passes by.

"Dr. Jacobs tell me what happened to my daughter!." Mrs. Adams starts shaking Dr. Jacobs, urging him to say something.

"Unfortunately, Kris wasn't as lucky as Kate. I'm sorry to have to tell you this but Kris is in a coma. She is in a very critical condition and I suggest that you start saying your goodbyes. She might not live long enough for Kate to see her." and with that, she falls down on her knees.

I stood frozen in my place. I've grown quite close to Kris. She was the first person I told about my feelings for Kate. I know it might sound weird to talk to an 8-year old about this but Kris was a bit mature for her age. She was like a sister to me. I can't believe that she's dying.

It was ironic how this familiar pain starts creeping its way back to me.

I look at Mrs. Adams, her fists were clenched and she started hitting Dr. Jacobs.

"no, no, NO! She can't be. There must be something wrong with the results. Sh.. She... She can't die." she puts her hands down in defeat and starts sobbing.

"Isn't there a possibility that she might survive?" I stared at him, pleading for an answer.

"Well, there is a small possibility that she will survive but based  on her condition right now, the odds of her surviving are low."

Despite of what Dr. Jacobs had said, I could see hope glisten in Mrs. Adams' eyes.

I wanted to convince myself that she would be okay but I didn't want to get my hopes up again just like the last time.

Dr. Jacobs starts to leave but when he opens the door, I could see Louis, Liam and Niall outside the room with concerned looks on their faces.

Liam sees me staring at them and they start walking in the room. Their faces were filled with shock and concern when they saw Kate.

Mrs. Adams stood there with a confused look on her face.

"Oh. I forgot to introduce you. Mrs, Adams, this is Liam, Louis and Niall." I say gesturing towards the boys.

"We're friends of Kate." Louis interjected.

She nodded and gave us a small smile.

"I'm gonna go to Kris' room." She starts walking out, leaving me and the lads in the room.

"What did the doctor say?" Niall breaks the silence. He looked like he was about to burst into tears.

"He said that Kate had a stress fracture and she'll be fine in a few weeks but her sister, Kris is in a coma. The doctor said that she might not make it."

They all gave me a sympathetic look. They knew about what happened to Emma a year ago. And it was like the past was repeating itself again.

hope you like this chapter. Sorry for the late update. I've been busy with school. This was all I could write for now :) but don't worry, more things will happen in the next chapter. I'll make it longer than this one :)
