Chapter 10

ZAYN'S POV

I stood there frozen as Kate started singing. I was completely spellbound by her voice. 

I could feel a familiar emotion crawling back to me as I watch her singing to Harry. I could see that Harry liked her by the way that he would stare at her. He looked at her like she was the most important person in the world.

They were both unaware that I was right behind them. Listening to the words that Kate was singing sent a peircing pain through my heart knowing that those words were meant for Harry and not for me.

Mary and the boys arrived just in time to hear Kate sing the last chorus of the song. When she stopped, I could hear gasps from the boys and Mary who were standing right beside me.

Kate turned around and shock was written all over her face. Her cheeks started to turn red. I missed that. I missed seeing her blush. I always thought that she looked cute whenever she'd blush. This day wasn't going as planned. I told myself that I would ignore her and keep thoughts of her away but I ended up doing the exact opposite. I couldn't stop thinking of her since I saw her at the airport yesterday. 

It was a mistake to see her again. I thought I could handle it but it turns out that I can't. I don't want to hurt Mary. She means a lot to me but if I can't control these unresolved feelings for Kate, I'm afraid that I might just be leading her on for nothing.

I've known Mary since we were kids. We used to be inseparable. When we were young, Our parents used to say that we would end up together. I used to be really happy when they would say that but right now, things feel different. I find myself wanting to hear those same words for me and Kate.

"Wow! Kate, you sound amazing." Mary beams with admiration.

"Yeah. You're really good." Louis puts his arm over Kate's shoulders while Niall and Liam nod in agreement.

"Thanks." Kate smiles shyly.

Mary and I sit across from Kate and Harry. For the next hour, I had to bear watching Kate and Harry together. It got harder especially when Kate leaned her head on Harry's shoulder.

"Guys, it's getting late. I think we should go." Liams stands up and starts gathering his stuff. I breathe a sigh of relief. At least I don't have to sit and watch Kate and Harry anymore.

I stand and help Mary up. We walk behind the others while our fingers intertwined with eachother. I watch Kate as she laughs at something Louis said. She opens her mouth to say something to Louis but she stumbes over a rock and falls to the ground. She whimpers as she hits the ground. I let go of Mary's hand and start running towards Kate but before I could reach her, Harry arrives by her side.

"Kate? Kate, are you okay? Does your ankle hurt?" Harry looks at her ankle. Worry filled his eyes.

"I'm fine. It just hurts a bit." 

"Are you sure? We could bring you back to Dr. Jacobs if you want."

'Back to Dr. Jacobs?'  What did Harry mean? Did something happen to Kate? He's acting as if something bad happened.

"I'm sure. I'm not sure if I can walk though." Kate mumbles.

"Okay. I'll carry you back to the car." Harry looks at Kate with a concern all over his face.

I grimaced as Harry starts to help Kate up and gives her a piggyback ride. I didn't like seeing them like that. I let out a quiet groan before I turned around and went back to Mary. She looks at me with a bit of concern but she doesn't ask any questions. She gives me a small smile and I smile back at her. She holds my hand as we go back to the car.
