"The SECOND Ellie goes down for her nap i need to come over. okay?" Was the text I received from Rydel that morning.
"Everything okay?" I replied to her.
"Not exactly. Will Rocky be home today?" She asked.
I texted back, "Yeah but come by anyways he might be working from his office at home."
"Okay be there around 12:30" She said.
"Alrighty." And that was the extent of our conversation.
I guess I forgotten what it was like to be a teenager. and I certainly had no idea how to parent one.
"Maaaaaaajor issue." Rydel came through the door with her hair in a bun an a baby carrier in her arms.
"Hi." I said to her as I picked up toys from the living room.
She pulled out her phone and sighed," You know how I was like on that social media break, especially since I had Lee I have had no time to do anything but eat, breastfeed, and sleep?" She asked me.
"Mhm?" I sat down and took my nephew out of the carrier.
"This." She showed me a picture of Alice an a boy, "Is my daughter's boyfriend." She raised her eye brows and I gasped.
"No!" I smiled, "How'd you find that out?"
"I found them." She said, "Up in her room when I came home from Lee's doctor's appointment."
"Were they?" I glared.
"No, no, but there was kissing, and so I kicked him out and I told Alice she better have a good explanation because Ellington is not gonna wanna hear about it." She paused, "But I fell asleep before he got home last night and we've barely been awake at the same time or home at the same time so I didn't get a chance to tell him, but I am today because he's coming home in like 30 minutes."
"Well shit..." I laughed, "What's his name?"
"Brandon..." She pouted, "And she didn't even tell me. Alice and I have had a such a relationship up until I had Lee. I think it's just odd that I have a new baby and she's so much older. But no need to start a family of her own," Her mood swung, "I can't believe she'd lie to me!"
"I can't either... Have you guys had the talk yet?" I asked her.
"No... I was too nervous. You guys know I don't have experience. Ellington was my first everything." She shook her head, "I can't believe my baby girl... She's grown up."
"You know Carter's got a girlfriend?" I asked her, "It's so weird." I rolled my eyes. "I never really did stuff with guys when I was growing up either. Rocky was my first."
"Was not," Rocky came down the stairs with wet hair, "Hey sis what's up?"
"My daughter has a 16 year old boyfriend and I found them kissing in her room last night when I came home." She blurted out.
"Woah he's 16? You didn't tell me that." I scoffed, "My god."
"Woaaahhhhh," Rocky sat down next to me, "How'd Ellington take it?"
"He hasn't yet. And I'm worried to tell him." She made a face and looked at the sleeping baby in my arms, "Things were so much simpler when we all had babies."
"Those were the days..." Rocky nodded, "But going back to you missy," He looked at me, "I was not your first Derek West was your first."
"My first kiss... And nice remembering his name... But my first kiss was him." I assured Rocky. "I went further with... Ken Johnson, and then you were my actual first."
"Nuh-uh..." He shook his head, "I was your first?"
I nodded an he couldn't believe this revelation. "Babe you had to have known this. We've been married over 10 years."
"I was your first?" His voice got higher in pitch, "Our first time was in my old bed room at mom and dad's house because you came to stay with me when I was in between leases and you had just moved out of college."
"Yes..." I nodded, "And it was my first time. I'm sure I was embarrassed and didn't tell you."
"Well I was supposed to know that!" He exclaimed, "That was supposed to be a least somewhat special." He looked over at Rydel.
"I had no idea any of this took place... Now what am I doing about Alice?" She sighed defeated.
"We'll talk about this later." Rocky looked at me and back at Rydel, "First of all, you should definitely offer Ellington sex before or after you tell him this."
"I can't." She whined and pointed at the baby.
"Fine, then offer him a blowjob or something." Rocky encouraged her, "Then after that you tell him, he'll be pissed, you calm him down, then he'll be okay for when Alice comes home. You guys talk about a punishment or whatever. Problem solved." He turned to me, "Juliette see, even when we think teenagers are innocent they might not be. So I'm okay to be paranoid about Anna and Carter."
"Anna Hollis?" Rydel piped up, "She's in dance with Alice... She's such a sweetie." She approved.
"Doesn't mean they aren't..." Rocky trailed off.
"My god I don't wanna think about it..." I stopped him and the door bell rang. I looked up, "What day is it?"
"Wednesday?" Rocky asked casually.
"Shoot.... Ryland, Karlee, and the baking team are coming over today to taste cakes..." I told them.
"I'm up for it!" Rocky hopped up an ran to the door to greet them and lead the team into the kitchen.
Rydel made her way with the baby into the kitchen to sit with all of us and eat some cake.
We tasted five or six kinds before Ryland agreed on a chocolate cake for his grooms cake, and they agreed on a white cake with raspberry and chocolate decorations on it. Once the bakers left we sat around the living room trying to help Rydel figure out what she was going to do about Alice.
"Man..." Ryland shook his head and looked at the baby in his arms, "I remember when y'all all had little babies and no one ever slept and now everyone has teenagers and kids and babies and no one ever sleeps..."
"This is true..." Rocky told them, "I can't think of one night where we haven't been interrupted for something random by one of our kids. And Now that Ellie can get herself out of her crib she can't get back in, so if we won't let her in bed with us or won't take her back or we don't know she's gotten out sometimes we wake up and she's been asleep on the floor somewhere." Rocky began to laugh, "And she's kids number four so it's like ehh what the hell."
"Yeah," Rydel nodded, "I remember when Alice ate a crayon I took her to the ER and when Brooke ate one I read 'nontoxic' on the label and said ehh it'll be in her poop at some point"
"Ew!" Ryland exclaimed and made a grossed out face.
Karlee patted his shoulder an watched him shift Lee onto his other arm, "You're in for quite a surprise with our kids honey... Kids do weird stuff. And eat weird stuff."
"Maybe we can just get a dog." Ryland suggested.
"Dogs do and eat weird stuff too Ry, no stopping that." Rocky protested, "Might as well have kids. Jump on the Lynch band wagon an have a million."
"Not so sure about that." He looked at Karlee, "But it's up for discussion." And he winked at her sweetly.

After several melt downs throughout the day, we had finally gotten every kid to sleep by 9 pm. Rocky mysteriously disappeared and I went to go tell Carter good night before I tried to find him. I walked down the hallway to our master bedroom and looked into the dimly lit room. "Baby?" I called to him.
He was lighting candles and moving things around in just his boxer briefs. I laughed, "What are you doing?" I asked him.
"I'm giving you your first time..." He sighed an came over to me.
I smiled and closed the door behind me, "You didn't have to do this."
He kissed me, "Oh but I did. You deserve it." He kissed me again, "I love you and just... think of this as the first time."
"After so many years I'm pretty sure we've surpassed the thousandth time Rocky..." I giggled to him and he pulled at my t-shirt, "I love you..." I mumbled into his skin.
"I love you too." He said, "Just as much as the first time."
