Chapter 7

"IN! IN! IN!" our coach screemed. I was at my rowing and i was in the A' team. " alright breathe!" he said. We were out in the water practising for our next competition, i was Stroke and number 27, John was behind me and number 34, Lisa was behind him and number 29 and in bow was Tom and he was number 45. " alright now were gonna do it again and this time we'll do sprints!" he shifted in his seat " 3,2,1 ROW!" he shouted. We did our sprints right into the harbor and docked the boat" now before you get out, we have a school trip comming next week i want you all there show them that California's state team actully cares, right Bow out!" he said and Tom got out the boat " Stroke" i nodded and was helped out of the boat, the rest got out and we all walked back to the hut to be meeted by Graeham, The club manager. " alright guys" he said, we nodded " did coach tell you about the trip?" he said hopefully " yeh and why?" i said, we didn't normally have school trips here so it was a bit weird" well we started a program with the school, they come here and get lessons on the boat and they get points on some award and we get more public attention" i looked at our team " eh hello were the California State rowing team, and the only rowing team representing California!" i said, he nodded " yeh but besides people who support us no one knows" he said and walked back in the hut, " right guys i need to go!" i said and they looked at me " what? where you going?" Tom asked, i normally stayed late but today was different!" not going into details but im meeting someone" i said with a big smile, they rolled there eyes " what?" i asked " so your ditching us for a future girlfriend!" I walked to my car and got my waterproofs on, because my mum caught me smoking and stopping my allowance wasn't a good punishment she took away my Vans, MY BABIES! They are, right now in a cupboard, locked away and i cant get to them.So i went and bought new shoes, to be more precise timberland boots. Today was captain America day so i put on my captain America hoodie. I only dress in hero stuff two weeks in every month. I got in my car and put some mints i my mouth and headed over to Mads. Oh good! i can meet my plumber, i parked at Mads but walked over to my house, i walked in and the water was gone" hello?" i asked i didnt hear anything " hello!" i said hoping someone would answer " yeh, through here" i recognised the voice, it was James Fisher. I walked through to my kitchen" what can i do for you, miss?" he asked " Hi im Gemma" i said and he nodded, he put out his hand out for me to shake " its nice to meet you at last!" he said with a smile " you to, i presuming and hoping you got it fixed " he laughed " i did yes" i smiled " what was it, do you know" he nodded " when you moved the plaster it was supporting the pipe and when you removed it, it leaked out, so i replaced the pipe and its as good as new" i smiled " thanks, im glad i got you then" he laughed" yeh, it was Derek that em mentioned me wasn't it?" he asked and i nodded " yeh, yeh it was when i told him it was you he didn't believe me, he should be here !" i said, he shook his head " apparentley he's sick, one of the boys told me when i got here" i nodded. We talked for a bit more and i payed him, i seen him of and i looked over at Mads, she was standing at her door talking to her mum and dad, i looked over not sure if i should go over i didn't know if she told her mum and dad yet. She got her shoes and jacket on " theres something different about you and i cant place it?" she said pointing to me " wait, where are you vans?" she asked " well my mum found out i smoked" her eyes widened" what'd she do?" she asked " well my brother smoked to so his bank allowence was stopped but she did that with me but when i reminded her i hated the bank account and hardly used it she decided to take my vans away" she laughed " its not funny my babies are in a stuffy cupboard all alone" i said while fake crying" aww sweetie" she said while hugging me" all better ?" she asked and i nodded and we both laughed, we walked out to my car and i opened the door for her, she got in and removed the book that was in her seat, i walked around to my seat and got in " Harry Potter!" she said while looking at the book " yeh i saw the films and i wanted to read the book, it helps with the no smoking" she nodded " what about the patches?" she asked while looking at me, i shook my head " na im doing this without them i'll only use them if i really need to " she smiled uneasily. " its fine!" i said reasurring her, she smiled. We were half way and my mints were gone, i pulled into a gas station " wait here i wont be long!" i said and she nodded, i walked into the shop and took four packes of mints, i walked upto the cashier and she looked at me funny " i quit smoking !" i said and she nodded " thats $3.28." she said with a smile, i nodded and gave her the money. I walked back out to the car and Mads had a confused look about her"what?" i asked her and she stared at my mints " got enough?" she asked and i laughed " again these help with the non smoking along with apples weirdly!" i said and she laughed " whatever works!" she said. I put them down and continued to drive, we finally got there after Mads kept asking where were going, mad as a mad hatter! I got out the car and opened her door, i went to my boot and got out my backpack" whats that?" she asked pointing to my bag " lunch!" i said and she smiled, i walked beside her and intwined our fingers, she looked down and smiled " okay i dont know where we are, so you kind of have to tell me or i report you to the police" she said seriously and i laughed " okay,okay you were very patient i'll give you that" she smiled " okay this is Frog Lake!" i said when we got near the edge of the lake, she turned around to see what i was looking at and smiled. " this..this is ...wow!" was all she said and i smiled " yeh, i know"she looked at me " didn't you say this means something to your family?" she asked, i nodded " yeh, see that cottage over ther?" i asked and she looked over" your not gonna say one of your relatives was murderd in there by some weird groundskeeper are you?" i looked at her " what? no" she looked at me " no my Gran used to live there when she was younger" she smiled " yeh, she lived there and through the small forrest theres another cottage and thats where my Grandpa use to live when they were both at the same age, they lived here right till' they were eighteen, they were friends then they dated my mum says they were childhood sweethearts!" i said with a smile on my face, i looked at Mads and she was looking at me with a smile on her face " your face lights up when you talk about them, they must have ment alot to you!" she said and i nodded " yeh when we moved out here we stayed with them, my Grandpa would tell me funny stories and my Gran would  correct his grammer" i said and she laughed a little " it was my Gran who taught me to cook, i burnt my first cake and she covered it in icing and sent it to her neighbour, who she didn't like to much as a gift" she laughed " yeh, they were quite a pair" i smiled " when i told them i was gay my Gran was ill at the time but she hadn't told anyone, and she said she wanted to be at my wedding even though she knew fine well she wouldn't be there" i said looking down, i didn't want to cry, i did that enough when she died. I felt Mads hug me and  kiss the top of my head, i looked up and she smiled at me " its fine, im okay " she looked at me, she wiped a tear away i didn't know i had" you sure?" she asked i nodded, she gave me hug and i held onto her, we broke apart and i smilled " now,come on lets have lunch!" i said and she laughed " okay!" she said, we sat next to a tree, our backs against it" okay so as you know im Brittish to be precise im from London" i said proudly and she laughed " i know, your accents deep and addictive" i smilled, she gasped" i made you blush!" she said while pointing at me " what, nooo!" i said in defence and she laughed" sure sweetie, whatever" i rolled my eyes " so in the UK we have afew things that are considered traditional which when i first came out here i noticed you don't do, so theres a good chance you wont have tried...strawberry's and cream!" her face lit up " and Scones, with jam and cream" she smiled " also theres fish and chips" she looked at me funny, i went into the bag and got out sweets that are shaped in fish and chips and she laughed" what, i wanted it to be as real as could be and its not authentic without fish and chips" she still laughed, she calmed down and nodded " you did good, i must say i didnt expect to be taking a trip to London" i smiled " good, then i surprised you!" i said " oh and one more thing, these aren't from London or Brittish but i wanted you to try... my smiley face chocolate chip pancakes" her eyes widened and she smiled when i brought them out.I had a pancake maker that cooked the pancakes into smiley faces " so this is lunch" i said, i now had all the food laid out" oh and a flask of tea, because apparentley we drink it alot!" i said and she laughed" so i heard" i nodded.
