August 30, 1994**Iolani POV**
Just as I'm opening to door to let myself in from work, I can hear the phone ringing in the kitchen. I toss my keys quickly in the bowl by the door, and take a quick glance at Molly Jr. fluttering around her fish bowl before rushing to get the phone before it rolls over to voice mail. I've really got to remember to feed her once I get off the phone...poor thing must be starving...
I manage to catch the phone just in the nick of time and emit a breathless sounding, "Hello?"
In response, I hear Aloha's peppy voice come over the time, "Lan Lan...I'm so glad I caught you! I've been trying all afternoon, and your machine is full." Hmmm...I'd wondered why I wasn't getting any messages the last few days. I must've forgotten to clear it after that Levi guy kept calling. Note to self, clear answering machine....
"I'm sorry about that, girl. It's been a pretty hectic last couple of days around here." I offer apologetically. If you only knew the half of it...
"Are you still coming on the 3rd? I made arrangements to get off work early to meet you when you land. I thought maybe we could have a late dinner and catch up. I've missed you." I offer enthusiastically.
And in that moment, I realize just how true that statement is. I really have missed her. It's hard to make a move this size without the support of your best friend...
"Actually that's what I was calling you about," she continues, excitement lacing her voice. "Apparently some bad trade winds are supposed to be coming through so my flight been bumped up a couple of days. I hope that's okay...?" she offers sounding a little uncertain.
"No problem, girl. I'll just move a few things around so I can be there to pick you up." I reply, surprising myself with my sincerity. "When are you getting in though?" I hope Zola can switch shifts with me...I'll have to ask her...
"September 1st at 7:29 p.m., United Airlines flight 2926. I leave the Islands tonight!" she exclaims giddily. "I'm so excited! I'm sure you've got all kinds of cool things to show me! I've heard the Mall of America is amazing!" she gushes, and I can't help but to find her excitement contagious as a grin lights up my whole face. Just wait until she sees the clothes...she's going to lose her mind.
"That's great girl. I'm excited to see you too!" I reply excitedly. "I've actually taken a couple of days off during your stay so we can catch up. I definitely need some girl time!"
"Oh me too. There's so much I need to tell you...including my little surprise..." she continues in a bubbly tone. "I know you're nervous about it after everything that's happened with Alika, but it's a good surprise...I promise you that. And if it doesn't make you forgive him, I'll eat my hat," she finishes, really laying it on thick. Now this...I'm not so sure about...
