**The Artist POV**
Given Lani's sad encounter with the coral back at the beach, it seemed we were going to be pretty well cabin bound, at least for this evening.
We weren't able to find many good dinner options at the convenience store, but I pulled together what I could, which turned into a macaroni and cheese, grilled cheese, and tomato soup special. It wasn't my greatest culinary experience, but it did the trick and filled us.
As she reclined with her foot elevated, I took it upon myself to investigate the mysterious covered furniture inside the cabin. Call me curious, call me nosy, call me whatever you want, but I was intrigued.
The first piece of furniture I uncovered ended up being a trunk filled with a bunch of old ratty clothes that moths had already done a number on months before. Nothing too exciting about this...
"What do you think is under that one?" Lani asks pointing to a random sheet in the corner.
I lifted the sheet, and released a cloud of dust into the air. Coughing, I managed to pull the sheet away to find an antique chest of drawers. A short investigation revealed it to be empty. Guess this might be of use. Needs to be cleaned first though...
The next thing turned out to be a vanity table, complete with mirror. Lani's face lit up with that one, and I can't say I blame her.
As it turns out, I saved what ended up being the biggest and best item for last. Tossing a grin in Lani's direction I started slyly, "And the piece de resistance is...." I quickly yank the sheet off, releasing the biggest dust cloud yet. Seriously...how long has it been since anyone's used this place?!
After several sneezes from both of us the dust clears to reveal...a piano. Now this is interesting...
"Ta da!" I exclaim with delight, as I find myself enveloped in another glimpse of a memory.

When I finally pull out of it a few seconds later, I find Lani giving me a look of concern.
"Are you okay?" she asks, confusion lacing her beautiful face. I should really be asking you that...
"I think so..." I reply, slowly coming back to myself. "A flash of memory just came over me for a minute there." I continue, realization coming over my features.
"What did you see this time?" she asks, genuinely curious.
"I was playing the piano again," I respond, curiously. "I must know how to play..." I continue, eying the piano I just uncovered with a sense of wonder.
"Well there's only one way to find out," she offers, gesturing to the instrumental elephant in the room. "Play something for me, she finishes with a tender smile.
Well here goes nothing...
I take a seat at the piano, uncover the keys and try my hand at playing. At first I don't seem to be getting very far with it, but eventually I find my groove playing bits and pieces of various things.
I toss her a delighted smile as I start getting into it, and receive a grin in response before a thoughtful look crosses her face. "Only one thing would make this better, she eventually tosses out.
"What would that be?" I ask with a goofy grin as I continue tickling the ivories. Hmmm...seems I'm actually pretty good at this...
"If I'd thought ahead to bring my ukulele. Would make for an interesting duet," she retorts, twinkle in her eye. Now there's an image...

A few minutes later, a random song pops into my head and I just can't seem to get it out of there. Eventually, I decide to take a gamble and try playing it for Lani to see what she thinks.
Almost effortlessly, the song comes out of my fingertips and across the keys.
Meeting her bright blue eyed gaze of wonder, I ask with a smile on my face, and a confused look in my eyes, "Does this song sound familiar to you at all?"
"I've never heard it before, but it sounds beautiful," she replies with wistful smile.
Huh...if she's never heard it before, how do I know it?
Beaming with pride at the compliment, but still befuddled by my apparent knowledge of this song my fingers continue playing on as if I'd known this song my entire life.
__
Eventually it grew late, and I saw Lani starting to nod off on the couch.
"I think it's time for bed mama," I offer, getting up and making my way over to her. "Let me bring you your bag so you can get changed."
"Okay..." she replies sleepily as a large yawn escapes her mouth.
I bring her bag over to her before heading in to the bathroom to change into my own sleepwear.
Just as I'm finishing up I call out to her, "You dressed sweetheart?"
"Yeah, I was just getting ready to go to bed and call it a night," she offers. Dammit!
"I'll be right there to carry you to bed," I reply gently, before letting out a small grin to myself. So there is a plus side to this whole foot situation...
"Are you sure? I think I can make it myself," she responds reluctantly. Oh no, you're not...
"I'm not sure you should put any weight on that foot. At least not tonight," I reply softly, heading toward her to lift her tenderly into my arms with minimal resistance.
As I make my way toward the bed with her in my arms, she lets out another large yawn. "Seems someone's tired..." I say with a chuckle as I lay her down gently, crawling in behind her. Now this is nice...
Knowing she's too sore for anything tonight, I give her a whisper of a kiss on the back of her neck as my arms encircle her waist tenderly. In a matter of moments, we're both sound asleep.
