Chapter 5: Poolside
Do I want to impress my newfound friends this badly?
It’s not that I thought they wouldn’t want to be my friends anymore. It’s literally been about a week since I met them and so the expectations were still hovering high. I needed to make an impression; and my basic swimsuits wouldn’t do.
I had a few bikinis at home. A teal, a white, a baby blue. All of them not very flattering for my chest, which couldn’t easily fill up a swimsuit. Bandeaus don’t help either, but I really like them and they were my favorite type to wear. One pieces weren’t going to do, especially if the others will probably be wearing bikinis.
Lord Jesus, why don’t I have boobs?
School had ended and I booked it to the mall, searching for any sign of a nice swimsuit for tonight. Tonight I’d be at Kylie’s; I’d most likely be the odd one out if I wore your basic Victoria’s secret bikini you see any other girl with. And once again, the chest issue. I hate being Little Miss A Cup.
I found myself loitering in the clearance section of Forever 21, digging through the buckets of bathing suit top and bottoms, frustrated with the lack of choices, but what else could I expect during a Michigan September?
I had reached the last bin, the same pieces that made their appearance constantly showing up again and any and all hope I had was diminishing. God dammit.
And just then, it showed up. A twisted, lavender bandeau top with a matching gathered bottom. I held it up to glance at the size. Small. Small. Small!
“Yes,” I whispered, holding it in between both my hands and turned around, just in time to bump into a hard chest.
“Sorry,” I said nonchalantly, making my way to slip past them when they grabbed my shoulder.
“Wait.”
I looked back at the figure, tall and lean with a navy tee and slouchy burgundy jeans.
“Ben?” Jesky?
He smiled and released a breath between his rosy lips, reaching forward to the suit in my hands. Before I could protest, he held it out and smirked, before tossing it back.
“I could see you in that,” he said, shooting me a wink. Flustered, I shoved it into a ball and crossed my arms.
“Why are you in here?” I asked.
“I saw you walk in, thought I’d say hi.”
I looked to the opening into the mall corridors. “I walked in ten minutes ago.”
He stood awkwardly for a moment. “I-I know.”
“You’re crazy,” I teased, slapping his arm with my bathing suit.
“Careful with that,” he purred, smiling smugly, grabbing my arm to stop my assault. He can sweet, I guess. It was fun messing with him.
“What do you need this for, anyway?” Ben asked, fiddling with the tag hanging from the garments.
“I’m going to Kylie’s tonight with some friends.”
He lifted an eyebrow. Not like Robbie, but he sure could cock one too. “Kylie’s, eh?”
