Chapter 37: Good Wishes

I never imagined myself to smile like I did today.

For a boy, not just any boy, the boy I’ve loathed since he pulled up a chair next to me on my first day of school to be one I ended up falling tragically, deeply in love with.  I never believed the hands he used to shove me into Kylie’s swimming pool would be swinging open doors for me, for those fingers he used to toss straws on our table at Wings to be writhing through the gaps between mine. 

Robbie had walked me to my college writing class hand in hand, daintily rubbing circles into my thumb. 

“I love you,” he said, cupping my face in his hands and gently pressing his lips to my forehead.

“I love you too,” I said.

He smiled lightly and released me, dropping his hands to my waist.  “Are we gonna be that couple?”

“Hm?” I asked.

“You know…” he said, dropping his eyes to the floor, “the one lovey dovey couple who can’t stop kissing each other goodbye even if  they’re just going to class?”

I laughed a little.  “Only if you want us to be.”

He turned his lips to the side.  “Good.”  And kissed me.

“Alright, alright,” I giggled, turning my head to the side, “you’re gonna be late!”

“Okay, I’m leaving,” he laughed, rubbing my hand as he turned and walked away. 

I watched him turn the corner at the end of the hall before I entered my classroom and dropped my book bag on the floor by my desk.  After sitting down and pulling out a notebook, a hand slammed onto my papers.

“Hey.”

I looked up slowly from under my eyelashes to see Danielle.

“Oh,” I whispered, tugging at the notebook from under her hand, “I, I um, look…” I stammered.

“I’m not mad.”

I lifted my chin up to her and she pulled up a chair, folding her hands on my desk.

“I’m not mad, Arianna,” she said.

I frowned in confusion.  “But,” I cried, “you were so mad!  You wouldn’t eat, and you wouldn’t talk to me, and-“

“I was at first,” she cut me off, “but I’m not anymore.”  I watched her fiddle with the bracelets on her wrist, “you two are in love.  And I’m okay with that.”
