After a few minutes of waiting I emerged out of the water and rushed over to put my dress back on. Feeling much more comfortable with clothing I stepped into the trees. The branches seemed low and dense compared to the more open trees in my paradise. Somehow the dense forest seemed much more quiet than the opening by the pond. "Hello... Is anyone there?" Only my words came echoing back to me. Twigs snapped under my bare feet and though it was somewhat painful I ignored it. Trusting my good sense of direction I left no path back to my paradise in case someone was out here watching me.

I went on for about an hour until I was satisfied with the thought that I hadn't found anyone. I was about to turn back for home when I heard a strange noise come from a small patch of bushes. Carefully I edged closer to the bushes not taking my eyes off them. Suddenly I began to feel the ground begin to give, instantly recognizing the trap I turned to rush back to safe ground. It was too late, in a very painful split second I was at the bottom of a hole, the twigs and leaves from the trap scattered around me. I gingerly brought my arm out from beneath me. Blood poured out of a scratch that reached from my wrist nearly to my elbow. Holding back tears I tore off a piece of cloth from the hem of my dress. A painful sting burned up my arm as I wrapped up the wound. I gently scooted myself to the side of the hole my muscles aching as I moved. The hole was maybe six feet in diameter "Too big to climb using the other edge." my thoughts continued to make me feel like hope was gone. hmmm...I can't jump up and grab the side because hole is at least twice my height and I'm not a very good jumper as it is. But there was a root just out of reach. Jumping I finally caught hold of my only way up. The root almost instantly broke, sending me falling back onto the twigs. It had begun to get dark and hope began to seem like nothing more than a fairy tale. When it got too dark to see the taunting ledge of the hole I decided to go to sleep.

Dreams danced in my head, cruel faces of people I had left behind now seemed to laugh at me for being so foolish. The hidden face of the person I had heard seemed to dangle a rope just out of reach leaving me in agony jumping up and down like a kitten after a string
