Meghan and Joey watched Attack On Titan while she ate her breakfast. They started back at the beginning since Joey had never seen it before and Meghan was excited because she knew he would like it.
"I'll take that," Joey said, reaching for the plate when Meghan had finished.
"It's okay, I'll get it," she said, standing up. Joey went back to watching the anime. She made her way to the kitchen and placed the plate and fork in the sink. She reached for the refrigerator handle to get a pitcher of lemonade when she saw the note. A yellow note was pinned to the fridge by one of her iPhone app magnets. It read, 2 1/2 year anniversary - Wednesday. She ripped the note from the fridge and grabbed a pen from a countertop. She furiously scribbled on the note as if it were Jimmy himself. She scratched on the paper until she couldn't read what was on it anymore and then tore it into tiny strips. She threw the pieces in the trash and turned on the sink faucet so Joey couldn't hear her small, quiet sobs. She sunk to the floor and buried her face in her hands. She was so focused on trying to calm down that she didn't notice Joey standing over her until he turned off the water. He got down on one knee and placed a hand on Meghan's shoulder.
"I'm sor-" Joey started.
"I know you're sorry, Joey. You don't have to keep saying it. It's not like it's your fault or anything," Meghan said, uncovering her face.
Joey pressed his lips together and nodded. "We could always go to my place," he reminded her. "Maybe there aren't any memories there."
"Would you mind?" she asked.
"No, not at all. Do you wanna go now?" he asked and she slowly nodded her head.
Meghan grabbed her phone and followed Joey out the door.
As she shut the door behind them, Joey said, "Remember to lock it this time."
"I will," she said with a small smile. After hearing the lock click into place, they made their way to Joey's car. Joey noticed that Meghan had a small skip in her step.
