Chapter Nineteen
Pain is a blunt and nonspecific diagnostic instrument.
---------------------
It felt like I was hit in the face with a Harry Potter book as I opened my eyes. The light ripped in making me squint feeling as if I was trapped in a cave for years.
I mumbled incoherently as I looked around the unfamiliar room trying to remember what happened.
"Alanna!!"
A familiar voice rang tugging at my heart. My eyes widened and my head flicked towards him.
"You're awake, finally! How are you feeling?"
He was at the side of my bed in an instance. His hair a mess, green eyes dull and faint black circles almost resembling the rings of a tree were deepening his face.
I swallowed the ball in my throat as I tried to divert my eyes from his.
"Baby, look at me"
He whispered gently.
"Don't call me baby. I am not your baby"
I seethed and angrily pulled off the blanket, I walked towards my ensuite bathroom and slammed the door shut trying to make a statement. After doing a quick 10 minute shower I finished off my morning skincare routine. With my towel wrapped around me I realized that because of my anger towards Damion I forgot to bring my clothes with me.
"MARK!!!!!!!!"
I had the door slightly ajar as I yelled for my brother.
"Alanna do you need anything?"
I heard a weight pull off the bed as Damion's concerned voice asked.
I took a deep breath before yelling my brother's name a few more times yet to no avail.
"Alanna, Alanna listen"
Damion's voice was getting closer.
"DAD!!"
I tried my father. No response.
"Alanna listen! No one's home. It's just you and I."
I froze feeling the oxygen being knocked out of my lungs.
"What? What do you mean no one else is home?"
Fear and uneasiness prickled down my spine as panic infected my senses. But I also had a stupid part of me that trusted Damion with all my heart.
"Damion, I need you to leave"
I spoke calmly to him from behind the door.
"No, no I am not leaving until I speak to you."
He declared stubbornly.
I felt my heart seize as I started remembering what happened.
"Damion just leave"
I ordered.
"No! I have a right to know what happened! I have a right to talk and for you to listen! Do you understand that?"
He was pressed behind the door that my back was leaning on. Speaking to it, speaking to me.
"Being without you is ripping me to shreds"
I heard the hopeless whisper I know I wasn't supposed to hear. My eyebrows rose up as well as my heart. This pathetic piece of me that wishes for us to get back together yearned for those words.
