Reader's POV

I woke up next to Cicero, his chest rising and falling slowly and his red hair splayed out against the pillow. I grinned before scooting closer to him and wrapping my arms around his torso. I laid like that for a while, just hugging him and listening to his breathing before he began to stir. "Listener?" He opened one eye blearily before smiling widely. He rested his hand against the base of my neck and pulled me into a kiss. I smiled against his lips as happiness bubbled inside me. He removed his hand and pulled away but our noses were still close enough to touch.

"About time you two woke up. Having fun with the fool (Y/N)?"

I jumped as I heard Babette's voice loud and sharp. I turned to see her leaning against the door frame, grinning wickedly. "Nazir has a special contract for you. Come see me after you two go talk to him." She turned and stalked out of the room.

I sighed and swung my feet over the edge of the bed and began to stand. I yelped as I felt an arm wrap around my waist and pull back into the jumbled pile of covers. Cicero held me tight and buried his face in my neck, groaning and muttering about "five more minutes". I chuckled and wiggled out of his grasp. I stood up and stretched my back arching like a cat. I threw on a clean cotton shirt then put my armor over top of it, doing the same with my pants before finally slipping on my boots. I held my helmet in the crook of my arm as I began heading out to the common area. Cicero's foot steps sounded behind me as I made my way to Nazir.

"Good you're up. I have a very important contract for you." Nazir stood to greet me as I approached. "I need you to kill someone. Someone of great importance." He looked at me quizzically. "I believe you can handle it?"

"Of course. Who's this 'contract'?" I asked as my excitement grew.

"He's a member of the Theives Guild and a very important one at that. He goes by Brynjolf. Don't know his last name and I frankly don't care. I'm sure you and the jester can locate him easily enough down in Riften." The redguard fiddled with his nails idley, not really caring about the contract.

I could feel my heart sink and my stomach tied up in knots. "B-Brynjolf?" I asked weakly. "Are you sure?"

"That's the name I have here. Now go speak to Babette, she'll give you some poison so that you don't have to confront his companions." He muttered.

I nodded bleakly before heading up to Babette's alchemy lab. "Oh good you got the contract. Here's some nirnroot, slip it into his mead or something." The child shrugged as she handed me the brown root. Astrid gave me the same thing to poison the Emperor with, I thought before pocketing the root. "Thanks," I murmured quietly. Walking out of the Sanctuary door felt like my life just ended, all of my anxieties hit me at once and I began to hyperventilate.

"Listner? (Y/N)?" Cicero knelt down beside me but I quickly shoved him away. "I'm fine! I'm perfectly fine!" My breaths came in short rapid intakes and my heart began beating faster and faster until I thought it would burst from my chest.

I can't do this. I can't I can't I can't. Brynjolf is my friend...this is too much. I can't do this. Why? Why is this my life? Why can't I live normally? Have children? Have a home? Why must I be Dragonborn?! I didn't ask for this! I didn't want this! Why should I have to save Skyrim alone?! Why should I have to kill Alduin alone?! Why am I always alone?! Alone, alone, alone! I CAN'T DO THIS!

"(Y/N)?! (Y/N) listen to Cicero-"

"I'M DONE LISTENING! I LISTEN TO THE NIGHT MOTHER, TO NAZIR, TO THE GREY BEARDS, TO (either Ulfric or General Tullius)! I'M DONE! I'm done..." My voice began to crack as I finished my rant. "I just want to have a normal life away from all this!" I waved my hands in the air gesturing towards the Dawn Star Sanctuary. Cicero grabbed me and pulled me into a tight embrace. "You don't have to listen. Cicero is here to listen for you..." He held me as tears began to fall down my cheeks. "I cry to much for an assassin," I chuckled as I wiped my eyes.

Cicero nodded with a small smile on his lips, "Cicero doesn't mind."

------------
Ok so killing Brynjolf is not an actual contract in the game (at least to my knowledge) so don't freak out lol. I just needed something dramatic.
