Reader's POV

With each step Shadowmere took a new shot of pain raced through my head.

"Ugh. Cicero why'd you let me drink that much?" I groaned.

"Cicero tried to stop the Listener but she would not listen oh no," he giggled. "It was quite a show. The Listener sang to people around her, she even fell and poor Cicero had to carry her away!" He burst out laughing. He tugged on the reigns, veering Shadowmere to the right.

"I sang?! Oh dear Talos..." My face turned red as hazy memories flashed in my mind.

"Oh yes! It was quite lovely!" Cicero cheered.

"Keep it down will ya? My head feels like it was hit by a giant," I muttered.

"Oh Cicero is sorry (Y/N)!" He pouted.

A few hours passed and the sun began to dip below the horizon, elongating the dark shadows cast by the trees.

"Does the Listener feel better?" Cicero asked kindly. I nodded against his back, my eyelids feeling heavy. He chuckled and stopped Shadowmere. The horse snorted and began to eat at the soft grass.

Cicero gathered a bunch of fire wood while I groggily made a circle of stones. I unrolled our bed rolls and unpacked the large pot I had brought. Cicero started a fire and I began making stew, again.

Cicero's POV

I looked over at (Y/N), her (H/C) hair falling in strands around her face. She took small bites of the steaming vegetable stew before setting the bowl next to the fire. She stared absently into the dark forest, lost in her own thoughts.

"Cicero must confess something to the Listener," I said cautiously. Her (E/C) eyes immediately locked into mine as she awoke from her thoughts. "Cicero read the Listener's journal..." I whispered. For the first time since becoming Keeper I felt scared. Anger flashed in her beautiful eyes.

"How far?" Her normally gentle voice was sharp as a dagger, cutting at my heart.

"All of it," I admitted. I stared at my feet sadly. The Listner will never trust dear Cicero now... never never.

I slowly looked up and met her gaze. To my astonishment I did not see anger anymore but in its place was sadness. Tears began to well up in her eyes as she flung herself at me. She wrapped her arms around my neck and sobbed into my shoulder.

"The Listner does not hate Cicero?" I asked quietly.

"N-no. I could n-never hate y-you," (Y/N) choked out between sobs. I smiled and stroked her hair while humming a tune.

"C-Cicero?" Her voice was hoarse from crying.

"Yes sweet (Y/N)?" I asked.

"I think I'm in love with you..." She whispered quietly before burying her face back into my shoulder. I blushed slightly as her words rang loud in my mind...louder than the laughter once did.

"Cicero loves the Listner as well," I murmured.
