Chapter Two - Outside *viewpoint Liang*
I follow quietly behind Kia who now has an attitude with me. The second we are outside cold air hits me and I shiver. I notice Kia stop and look back to me for a moment. He puts his fingers to his lips and points to a spot not too far away.
"Be quiet. Follow me."
I nod and follow his movements. He is quick and glides silently. I go after him when the color drains from his face. I turn and see a few women and men in front of me. The look crazy, their eyes bulging.
"He..." before I have time to speak guns are pointed at me and knives are at my throat.
I see Kia flinch where he hides and he gets up. I put my hand out and glance to tell him to stop. His face grows of anger as he gets back down, still in position to attack.
"Can I help you?" I ask calmly.
"Be quiet!" One says loudly before they mumble amongst themselves. I catch words here and there. They say I don't look human and they try to determine if to kill me or not.
Suddenly a familiar screeching noise sounds and they all scream, forgetting about me and running. Kia is suddenly at my side, pulling me along with him. He opens a door and slams it shut, barricading the door quickly. Through a slit in the broken walls a creature slowly follows the humans as they try to fight back. Some humans disappear all together and the others are killed. Their bodies drop to the ground covered in blood.
Body parts are separated and searched through for something. Out of each one a ball is pulled out and the creatures look around making sure they got everyone. When they decide they have they leave.
Kia is sitting in the corner breathing heavily and hugging himself tightly. I go to his side and slowly place my arms around him to comfort him. "Are you alright Kia?"
*Kia point of view*
Liang wraps his arms around me and places his chin on my head. "Are you alright Kia?" He asks gently. I take advantage for a moment before yanking away and standing up. I reach into my pocket as I walk casually to the other side of the room; my hand resting on a locket given to me before I left home.
Liang makes an angry noise and stands up, walking towards me. "Wha-what do you want?" I stutter. He places his hands on me tightly and kisses me. I quickly try to pull away but he only tightens his grip and kisses me harder. I bite his lip and he backs up cursing.
"What the hell Kia?"
"Don't touch me and I won't bite you."
He laughs and shakes his head while licking his blood. "No matter what you do, it is our contract. During the day I might let you get away with it, but at night know you have no right or choice to refuse me."
I slightly blush and look down, taking in his words. We don't talk for a while but my phone ringing takes me back to reality. I get it out of my pocket and look at a text. "Where are you? Everyone is waiting for you to get back. Hurry."
I sigh and respond. "I got what I was looking for. I will be back soon."
"What is that?" Liang inquires, looking at the phone.
"A cell phone." He frowns at me and I mumble. "That's right, you were locked up for ten years on display..."
He frowns again and looks away from me. I forgot he has superb hearing.
"Sorry... It's a human device that helps people that aren't together contact each other. We can message or we can talk."
Though his eyes show interest he only nods and then looks back outside. "Shouldn't we be leaving?" I nod and unblock the door.
"Where we are headed is about a mile away. Is that okay with you?"
"As long as you keep hold to your part of the deal, I will do as you wish."
I stop and look at him. "Your highness... Why do you want me to do this so badly?"
He stared at me and looked away disgusted. "It's been twenty seven years since you last called me 'Highness' Kia. What makes you resent me so much. Didn't you love me all those years?"
My heart pains and I continue what I am doing. When everything is clear we leave for the base.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Kia! You're back!" Mia runs towards me and jumps into my arms. I smile, swinging her around and kiss her head.
"How were you my baby girl?" I place her down, still in my arms.
"I was wondering when you would get back. Who is this?" She pointed to Liang and I flinched.
"He's a friend of mine, his name is Liang."
"You have friends?"
"Haha funny. Get back inside." I smile and she continues on inside.
He gets serious. "How old is she?"
"Ten."
"Who is she?"
"I found her when she was a baby. I have been taking care of her in her father's role for the past ten years."
"Oh..." He stops interrogating me.
"Let's stop talking about this now. Her name is Mia. She is the most important person on earth from land that there is to me. Protect her for me, alright?"
"If she is that important to you I will."
"Thank you. Now come in. It isn't safe out here." He nods and follows me inside to where the others are.
"Daddy's finally back." My friend Jenna says sarcastically. Her husband goes beside her and hugs her.
"Be nice." He kisses her cheek and smiles. "Is this what you needed to get?" He points to Liang and I nod. "How do you know him?"
"He's from my home."
"Nice to meet you, I am Liang." Everyone watched him warily and he sighs. "I've known Kia for twenty nine years. You don't have to be so afraid of me."
He sat on a chair and glared at me, crossing his arms. "Twenty nine years? Neither one of you look a day past twenty."
"I..." I cut Liang off.
"In our village everyone looks young. It's natural."
Everyone watched each other in silence. "We need to get ready for dinner."
