Chapter Nine - Liang's Heart

Liang's Heart
*Kia P.O.V.*

I stare at the corral in front of me in silence. "Kia!"

I turn around to see Liang swimming towards me quickly, a bright smile adorning his face. "Prince Liang." I bow.

"Joshen, you are excused." I look towards Liang's butler and he gives a disapproving look before bowing and going back into the palace. Once the area is clear Liang takes me into his arms and kisses me hungrily.

"Liang, someone might see us!"

"I really don't care. I've missed you so much Kia. Did you miss me?"

Liang went on a mandatory trip with his father to a small village two days swim away. It's been five days, like I wouldn't miss him. "Of course I did, but I don't want to be taken from you either. So I'd rather not risk someone seeing us."

He smiles, kissing my forehead before letting me go. "Anything you wish. Oh yes, we must be on our way now. I've something to show you."

He grabs my hand and drags me into the palace, all the way to the royal headquarters. We arrive at a door and he knocks. "Come in."

Liang opens the door and walks into his grandfathers room. He smiles to his grandfather, hugging him as his grandfather whispers something. They look at me with smiles and beckon me in. I walk in timidly, face towards the ground.

"Don't be nervous son, come here." A deep voice says making me look up immediately.

"Elder Aiden."

"No, call me Aiden. I insist."

"Elder...."

"You're much more than a servant in my eyes Kia. Call me Aiden, or grandfather. I insist."

I look at Liang and he continues smiling. "Grandfather, Kia is a little shy. He'll have to get use to you properly."

"Of course, take your time Kia. On to the reason why you came, mind shutting the doors?"

I turn around, closing the doors as he pulls out a box. "This is my gift and word of acceptance. These are very rare and very special. I know they will have a special meaning once you two are older."

Liang takes my hand and looks at his grandfather with expectant eyes. "Can I open it?"

"Why don't you let Kia open it, would you like that?"

I look at Liang once again. "Go ahead love."

He releases my hand and I scoot towards the box slowly. Taking a breath, I open the box slowly, gasping at the sight before me. "What is this?"

Liang takes the two necklaces out of the box, pairing them together. "Grandfather made these himself. He used a very rare jewel."

"These are beautiful.... Sir."

"I'm glad you like them. Liang, put his on him."

"Wait, what?"

"These are my gifts to the two of you."

"No, I can't. This is too much! It must cost a fortune, give it to the queen. I'm sure she will love it."

"No Kia. This is yours to keep."

"I can't accept something so amazing."

"You can and you will Kia." Liang jumps in to the conversation, kissing my forehead and slipping the jewel around my neck."Think of it as an engagement ring. No, a promise. As long as you have this and I have mine, you will always belong to me and I to you. No matter what happens, I will always find my way back to you."

I hold back the tears threatening to escape. "I love you Liang." He embraces me in his arms and after a few minutes his forgotten grandfather clears his throat.

I blush and Liang smiles, kissing me once. "I love you too Kia."

****Present****
*Kia's P.O.V.*

A loud noise awakens me from my sleep and I feel something warm wrapped tightly around me. Just before I attack, Liang's voice stops me. "It's just me."

I sigh in relief and he chuckles."I'm glad you aren't still gonna attack me."

"Why would I do that? Its not like I want to hurt you."

We lay in silence for a moment before he releases me. "I'm gonna go for a swim Kia. Go back to sleep."

I watch him as he walks away in the dark night, disappearing under the water, the end of his tail shimmering in the moonlight. "A promise..."
